I haven't generalized any specific demographic. I actually think a 3rd Gen is a great car for young people as far as safety is concerned. The issue I have is high school & college kids being given $30,000-$40,000 4th & 5th Gens with $10,000+ builds. You know as well as I do how much bumpers, wheels, tires, lifts & lights cost. There is just no way a kid that age can afford a vehicle that expensive and all those mods.

I have no doubt that you put yourself into your vehicle. We're all passionate about our vehicles and we all want to enhance them in our own way. The difference is when a lot of us older members want something we have to balance that expense with mortgage, groceries, kids, wives shopping habits, utilities, etc and a lot of these younger kids (not necessarily you) just ask mommy and daddy for a credit card

My parents raised me to work for the things that I want. It was hard, but I appreciated those rewards that much more when I looked back on what I had to do to earn them. I'm sure some of these kids think they "earn" their rides because they are in school and get good grades. While that is important it is just what is expected in return for free room & board. Most of these kids don't help their case with their sense of entitlement and attitude either. A little humility goes a long way. Not as far as hard work, but a long way!

I agree completely. There were several of those types that I went to school with, and in keeping up with people its pretty funny to see where they are now with out mommy and daddies help. :hiding:

Please don't lump all of us into the same category. I worked very hard and yes, my parents paid for half of my truck but every mod that has been done to it was purchased by me and installed by me.

I'm Mike, I'm 19 and I live in Northwest NJ. I am young, yes, but I am by no means spoiled. My parents helped me out a lot with my 4Runner and I appreciate every bit of it. 6 months after receiving my license at 17, my dad handed me down his 2005 RAV4, which had 116,000 miles on it and he bought a new car for himself. I enjoyed that car for a year until my younger sister got her license and the RAV4 went to her. We figured, it is the perfect car for her and I wanted a truck, so we looked for a 4Runner. The deal was, my parents will put up $10k, and I put up the difference, and that's what we did. It was a few thousand over and I have been making payments for the past year. I am a full time student, I work in a factory and pay the majority of my paychecks off to my parents. I paid for the mods myself, but my parents loaned me some money for the lift and installation (because I already had the wheels and tires from my totaled '03). My point is, I work hard and I appreciate what I have. Thanks, now here's my truck
