Why no oil gauge?

Until your wheeling and for one reason or another there's no oil in your truck.

Just hope these motors aren't like the old 3.0. My 95 had an oil pressure gauge, and it would bottom out idling. Never turned the oil pressure light on though. Found out why, the Toyota FSM says the low pressure switch won't come on until the pressure drops below 5 psi.

Yeah, that works and is what I do, except I don't think the OBD II system reports oil pressure or temp.

I have yet to try one of these dongle/iPhone/Android gadgets. Many report that custom PIDs are needed for non-standard reporting.

I looked up the scan gauge II XGAUGE FEATURE. cost is $160. I can get it for $120 at advance auto. reading the instructions you have to program an empty memory slot with the proper coding like this

I'd be interested in this if we were guaranteed a way to look at all the important operations of the engine/trans.
