Will a 18.5" jack lift a stock 4R?

Will be changing my tires soon, and my current 15" floor jack is almost certainly not going to cut it. I can get a 18.5" model locally without breaking the bank, but if that does not work then I'll have to pay 2x and get a bigger one online.

Anyone have any experience with this? I know there are lots of points to lift from, but I'd go with the two center locations recommended in the manual.

i picked up a 3-Ton low-profile/rapid pump jack from Harbor Freight for $89 (listed for sale at $99 on their site) and a pair of their 6-Ton jack stands that were on sale for $24 (not listed on sale on their site). After using some 3-Ton jack stands for a while i wanted something with a taller/wider base and higher max height (so that i could set the height nice a low and feel more comfortable hanging out around/under there)
no complaints with these Pittsburgh products so far

Good idea on the jack stands, what do you think of the quality of the floor jack? I have been thinking of getting that one from HF.

i am impressed with it compared to the dinky POS Huskey 3-Ton I never should have purchased in the first place.

here are the old 3-Ton and new 3-Ton jacks for comparison. the rapid pump gets the plate to the frame in 2.5-3 pumps, the low profile is nice, and the release is smooth and easy to control. i felt confident using it

i hear ya, i spent quite a while inspecting them at harbor freight and was convinced they were solid, mind sharing what you use?

I've had the same jack for a few years now- great deal for the money.

I'm sure you will be fine with those stands as well- more money does NOT always mean better product.

Keep those 3-tons too- they come in handy for holding the rear axle during lift installations, and for smaller projects.

This thread is of interest to me. I've been on the prowl for a good set of jack stands and a great jack.

The Lowe's Kobalt jack I purchased a while back went straight to Goodwill after it utterly and completely failed to work as advertised. The jack stands aren't bad, but I'd need taller ones to do anything meaningful.

I have two of those jacks, both purchased for about $90 each. One is six years old and the other about 2 years old. They are great jacks for the money, they see lots of use, and I trust them. I also have the six-ton jack stands. They also work great and are a great value. The jacks may be one of the better HF items.
The lift height is just about OK. On a flat surface it is fine. When I need more lift I use a block of wood under the jack or on the lift.

This is probably overkill but for the truck I have these two by Hein Werner. Made in USA.

I bought the PAIR for $102 with free shipping on Amazon about 2 years ago. Today they are $130 for the pair.

They are very tall (25.75") and I take one stand with me on all 4WD trips.

I was in the market for a new jack when I installed my lift and ended up going with a 12 ton bottle jack. It's more of a pain to raise up and down, but it has a way smaller footprint than a floor jack. I was desperate since I needed it to do the install and a comparable floor jack at O'Reilly was ~$140 where-as the bottle jack at Wally World was like $40. Both had a max height of 18 or 19", which was fine, althoughI did have to use some wood blocks at times to lift it higher during the suspension install. I wish I had thought of going to Harbor Freight, but it didn't cross my mind to look there for a jack.
