Will a 265/70R17 fit as 4th gen spare?

Hi gang,

I've searched the forums but can't find this one answered.

I'm purchasing some 265/70R17 Revo's. They seem to be a highly regarded tire, and with the winter snow beginning to fall, now's the time! But do I buy 4, or do I buy 5? The question is, will this larger tire fit in the spare tire well of my 2005 Sport-model 4runner? When I say "fit", I mean "fit when normally inflated". I know I can deflate it to fit, but I can tell you that when I'm changing a tire in the snow in sub-freezing conditions, I don't want to mess around pumping it up first! Does anyone have a tire this size as a spare?

I'm pretty sure I've read on here that it does, tight, but it does. I know you searched, but it can be found in a search, so it might be hard to find, but i'm pretty sure it would be in a thread about tire upsizing.

I have BFG AT KO - 265/70/17 tires, including the spare. I also have a hitch in the receiver. The spare easily fits, and stays put. When lifting the spare, I push the tire toward the front of the 4Runner, until the rear of the tire fits behind the hitch. Then I let go and draw it up until tight.

Agreed' I have the Revo's 265/70 17's and
the spare fits fine, I also have the hitch. I put the spare tire lock on I had no problems getting the spare to go into it's space

Has anyone replaced their tires with 265/70/17 and left the spare 265/65/17 and had to use the spare. If so, were there any problems. I'm wondering if the spare MUST be up-sized!

I don't think it'll fit. There isn't much space for the stock size tire and you barely have room for the 265/70-17

Without physically doing this one has to ask if the difference between a 265/70-17 & 265/65-17 will fit. From sharp4runer

I'd avoid using different size tires on the same axle, even for the spare. There's just too much to worry about--ABS, stability control, even the full-time 4wd for V8 4Runners.

If nothing else, the differential will be working overtime even when driving straight (to compensate for the differences in tire diameter).

I might be safer (and less expensive) to just match your spare tire and avoid a potential disaster!

Many members have replaced and installed the spare with the 265/70/17 and had no problems.

I have 265 70 r17 BFG's with the stock spare on a mess up rim(crub got in my way). I never got around to getting another. If i do get a flat, i inflate the donlap, and deflate the BFG on the same axle. I figured this will get me at least home.

One daywhen I get time to go to the tire shop and get another.
