Will Lexus or LandCruiser Seats Fit SR5?

I bought a 2012 SR5 new a year ago. I still find the cloth seats uncomfortable. I am 6'2", 180 lbs and get a lower back ache when in the truck for even 10 minutes.

I have had the truck to three different upholstery shops and they say they can do nothing about it - afraid of liability issues.

Does anyone know if I can swap the seats for a more comfortable version and still keep all of the seat functionality? Perhaps out of a Lexus or LandCruiser?

You would likely lose seat airbag functionality unless they were quite new.

Are leather 4Runner (power) seats comfortable? Those should be a direct swap.

There are a couple things you will need to check. If the seat airbag connectors are the same, you are usually good on the airbag functionality. Check the seat track width and length. If the same, then it's a direct bolting. If not the same, it may still work by exchanging the frame track between your old and new seats. Also check the seat width to make sure it fits between the tunnel and B-pillar.

I had Acura RSX type-s recaro seats in my Honda CRV. Took a weekend to get them swapped.

If the donor vehicle is the same year model as your truck, then the chances are higher that the connectors etc are the same. Things like that usually come from a shared parts bin.

Passenger side air bag will be lost. It requires a signal from the seat's weight sensor to work. If it doesn't find it or it isn't calibrated properly the air bag is disabled.

On the Acura/Honda seats it's all an integrated unit wired up via a single plug. The sending signal is the same as well (I had that verified by a service manager buddy of mine). So in my case, everything worked as stock.

To get a basic idea if they work the same is to check the side airbag type/model. If they are the same between the two seats, you will likely be fine.

Same thing goes for the seat weight sensor.

After putting the seat back in, the air bag light came on and when someone sat in the seat, the SRS disable indicator turned on. Gotcha.... That's good to know, but a different issue from whether or not the electronics will work within the system. Thanks for clarifying that.

Thanks for the response. I wish it was as easy as changing the cloth seats for leather seats. The basic problem I have is the shape of the lower portion of the seat combined with the active head rest actuator.

I have actually made a little foam wedge to put behind my lower back, which is a little better. Perhaps a thick back pad would even out the pressure point a little. Anyone know of a good backrest? Or perhaps a good set of sheepskins?

I had the same problem when my LE was new. I kept a rolled up towel at the base of the back for about 9 mos. For long trips, I used an aftermarket seat cushion that had a foam lumbar support. After about 9 mos, the seat became comfortable. I'm not sure if it got broken in or if I just got used to it, but I stopped needing the towel.

I have been thinking about swapping out my seats do to comfort issues for 3 years now. Has anyone swapped out their seats for aftermarket seats like the Corbeau Baja XRS. I have a set of Corbeau's in my BMW 2OO2 and love them. My real question is would I just lose the seat airbag or would I have to live with a airbag light in my dash forever?????

You need to find a good upholstery shop and they can take apart the seat, adjust/rearrange/modify the foam and supports, and recover to your preference. I know you said you went to 3 shops, but you didn't find the right one yet. A good shop can modify that seat any way you want.
