Will you keep your 4runner if gas hits $8 a gallon?

Corporate GREED seems like the go-to answer usually from those who either don't understand the simple economic reality of supply/demand and/or who want to excuse the incompetence of bad government policies.

Gas stations mark up their fuel a few cents above what their supplier charged them for the last tanker of fuel. If one station filled up last week, and another yesterday, the prices may be quite different. Gas stations, like movie theaters, make most of their $ from drinks and candy.

Closing off public lands to oil/gas exploration, taxing the hell out of existing permitees and slow walking new permit applications has had a huge effect on supply. With demand constant, prices rise, and companies make more $ per $ invested. We the People are left holding the New Green Deal bag.

OK, so what got that one gas station to deal with a supplier that's screwing them so hard? I bet if it's not GREED then it's some kind of bad contract they signed or they're in debt up their wazoo or something. Prices have actually gone down a little bit elsewhere in the week since my last post on the subject.

Ok, maybe change direction of thread a little bit.

Gas/oil issues being stipulated to on both sides........

What would you get as a back-up vehicle that gets better gas mileage? We have a 2010 Camry that sips, but if I could find what I wanted it would be a VW Van from the early 70s or a bug.

Maybe a bike?

I'd love a Nissan Sakura. But... 'Murica. It's a shame because it's small and cheap and would complement my 4Runner perfectly. An efficient and (ideally) environmentally friendly (yeah I know about dirty power sources that's why I put (ideally) back there get off my sack) vehicle for my daily commute and for doing errands around town and then my big hardy SUV for big hauling, bad weather, and adventure.

I dunno, it looks kinda ugly. just sayin. But what about something that has a 2.5-liter diesel engine that makes 62 horsepower and is not ugly?

while I am fortunate enough to be able to expense my fuel....i still pay for it indirectly as an owner of the company......BUT I am thinking these prices are a good "excuse" to sell my 06 LC100 and buy one of these....to save money of course, i would sacrifice riding this.....

If you want to blame the current price increases on someone blame it on the people who refused to wear masks, spread lies about the vaccines, and basically helped make sure the virus could spread and mutate.

Now that people are driving more they are actually driving a lot more for summer vacations etc and that helps drive up the prices of gas.

QUIT BLAMING THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT FOR EVERYTHING YOU DON'T LIKE.

Fun fact. Did you know that with the latest Omicron BA.2 and BA.2.12.1, the vaccine/booster only protects you for 6 WEEKS against infection? After 8 WEEKS, protection drops to near zero. It does provide 12 weeks or so of preventing you from hospitalization and dying. But 6 weeks in terms of protecting you from the virus and then you spreading it to everyone…….6 weeks…that’s about it.

Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 will likely prove to be even more evasive to vaccines. Now, i am NOT saying that being unvaccinated is a smart move either if you have medical issues or that prior non-Omicron (specifically non-BA.2) infection is any better. I support vaccination of high-risk individuals. BUT, the current vaccine/booster has not been as effective as some may have lead you to believe.

Virus mutation is NOT from people not wearing masks. For the most part, COVID has spread just as easily (if not maybe faster) in highly vaccinated states (and with stricter mask mandates) as lesser vaccinated states. See the current explosion of COVID BA.2/2.12.1.

As for summer driving etc….what was the price of gas in June 2021? Average $3.15. So, no, summer has little to do with the current increase. Other factors are involved.

Next to my 1997 4Runner is a Tesla that plugs into Solar panels. The house is net positive. I can't wait for the day I can convert the 4Runner over. Oil is dead. Every subsidy should be put into battery and solar tech.

Just curious… Why do the Uber elite .001% still globe trot around, proclaiming the evils of petroleum, all the while racking up millions of flight miles in petroleum powered private jets? And… living in 20,000 square foot private homes powered by “the grid” run on petroleum/fossil fuels?

These same people are all for “choice” as long as your personal choice is the same as theirs… if your personal “choice” differs from their public facing agenda, your choice is invalid to them.

Isn’t it odd?

It's probably because they're weak individuals who are susceptible to perverse incentives. It's in human nature. You are more susceptible to perverse incentives than you would like to realize. The rich just have more money to indulge in their perverse incentives than the average joe.

If gas hits 8 dollars a gallon, i'm going to be fcKing rich :reddance:

Did someone say oil is dead because they made that correlation because they own a tesla?

US Oil Consumption, 1965 – 2022 | CEIC Data

I guess we don't need actual data to support that theory...not that the data shows that even with the USA transitioning to "green energy", oil consumption actually rose. Lets pretend this data doesn't exist and go by "feeling"...ROFL

I just wanted to add to your theory:

its all about control, and the perception of choice. If i can take away your choice, by never giving you the choice in the first place, I can control you without force. All lies are self fulfilling prophecies if you repeat it enough times, because people are naturally idiots and choose to live in a echo chamber, hence why control of information is so important. Same with resources.. You don't know you are poor until someone tells you that you are poor or its already too late (shrinking middle class)

So lets use oil as a example, and pretend I am a billionaire:
1. If i can stop drilling in the US, and move drilling to a country with lower labor costs, I benefit financially.
2. If i can create a shortage, and increase the price per oil, i benefit financially.
3. If i can subsidize green energy technology which requires oil for manufacturing, i benefit financially.
4. if the cost of producing electricity requires oil, i benefit financially.
5. if i can weaponize energy dependency for regional security, I benefit financially.
6. if i can create a inflation scenario, i benefit financially.
7. If i can make the end user/consumer pay for energy (believing its all natural), i benefit financially.
8. countries (cartels) and big business control energy pricing and demand, not the end user/consumer, i benefit financially.
9. if i have a political party in my pocket or has a easily manipulated power base, i benefit financially

I love it when people say oil is dead...We are on the verge of ww3, EU needs energy or it will be on the verge of economic collapse and africa is on the verge of famine all because of a energy crisis due to one country (russia) deciding it wanted to change all the rules, and opec won't increase energy production......yup..oil is dead alright..ROOFL

Too bad the data isn't populated into 2022 so we should compare pre and post pandemic consumption.

During the pandemic people stopped driving. Oil companies stopped exploring, reduced operations and laid off huge numbers of employees. None of the actions mentioned above had anything to do with creating the pandemic or the reduced supply. If you want to blame the current price increases on someone blame it on the people who refused to wear masks, spread lies about the vaccines, and basically helped make sure the virus could spread and mutate.

Now this is funny s*** right there, thanks for the laugh.:wtf:

Gas and oil (or just a blanket "energy production") plays a larger part in what runs the world's economy than just "the US."
The US is 14th in global oil exports. As a comparison #10 exports almost twice as much as we do at >1.4mm barrels/day (US=8.5).
So, if you were to tell me that oil and gas prices were stable elsewhere and we're only seeing increases in the US, then I would be more inclined to agree with you. But that's not the case.
The US is a drop in the bucket. Our energy policies may disrupt prices here but not to such a great extent elsewhere as we are currently seeing.

After O&G I would say manufacturing is the second contributor to the global economy. How much of the global steel, construction materials, tech products are manufactured here in the US?

Over here the UK is doing a tremendous job of punching itself in the face (Energy boycott), to show Russia who's boss.

$2.51 per litre (Not gal) for super...it means we're winning.

I believe that's our "premium" which is about $5usd/gal here in Colorado - a $9 difference if I did my "maths" right
.

The only benefit (if that's the right word) is that we don't have the huge distances you do, but working in the trades you can still really rack up the miles.
