Window Noise

Hey everyone

I've been reading the forums for awhile and finally decided to join. I've had a 2010 SR5 now since the beginning of July, and I had a question about if anyone else has noticed it.

Sometimes when I'm taking my dog on a ride, I'll roll one of the back windows down partially so he can stick his head out. If he doesn't have his head out the window, it will start to make this really deep "whoop whoop whoop" sound (not really sure how best to describe it other than it sounds like it will bust my ears)

I was just trying to see if it's something unique to my truck, or if anyone else is experiencing it. I tried searching for it, but didn't see any other post on it.

Just about every vehicle in the world will do that if you have the back windows down and not the front at least open part way.

My Suv's and Cuv's do it, but not my car's. I think it has to do with the roof strength requirements between car's and truck/suv's/cuv's. Just guessing here. Bottom line, it's normal.

I'd say the noise is related to the internal volume of a large cabin of an SUV vs. a small car.

Agreed, normal for SUVs. Just experiment with opening other windows, and it will go away.

And, yes you'll get exhaust stink with the tailgate window open.

Just crack the back window a bit, all of the wind buffeting and pressure change will stop.
It's the same as if you just tilted the moonroof, it'll kill your ears until you crack another window. I let my greyhound hang his head out the side window or the back window, but always open another window a good 1-2 inches.

And, yes you'll get exhaust stink with the tailgate window open.

If you just crack the back window, all of the wind will flow from the front to the back - no exhaust.
