Window Tinting, does anyone like their windows tinted dark like me?

Something new I did this time was to put a clear tint over the entire windshield, it really works great at keeping the heat down.
I drove my 4r a few days without tint and it was rather uncomfortable without the tint on, the difference is great in that the sun is not baking everything and there is the shade effect from the tint.

Yep. My son is a LEO and I definitely understand that and agree with it.
I rarely get pulled over but if I do the first thing is all four windows go down, the engine gets turned off and my hands are at 10 and 2 on the wheel.
Makes for a pleasant experience and the officer doesn't have to worry that I am doing something crazy like hiding crack or a gun.
Edit: And I should add that the few times I have been pulled over in the last ten years (yes, I have a lead foot) I have walked away with a warning. It's a respect thing and trust me, police officers do not miss that. ;-)

Good advice right there. Do the right thing for LEO safety and they tend to appreciate it. Make them feel uncomfortable and 1) they may reciprocate and 2) you're stupid.
Pull off to a safe spot for them and you. Ignition off. Windows down. Hands at 10 & 2 (which I think is what Blitzkrieg meant). Please and thank you.

As an LEO I'll say this, I had my fronts on my 15 SR5 tinted to match the rears, so they are technically illegal. They aren't obnoxious and I would never pull me over. Then again, I don't work for an agency that is looking for quotoa's nor making money off of every single vehicle pulled over as revenue for the town. The advice others have given is great advice on what to do when pulled over. It does set the tone for a better stop. If I pull someone over for tints it's probably because I am fishing for bigger fish, IE: drugs. In Ct, ANY aftermarket tint is supposed to get tested at DMV and get a pass sticker put on the window if it passes. I don't think anyone does this.
I just had my fronts tinted the same as my rears. Well at least they look the same from outside but inside... nowhere as optically clear as the rears. I dont know what they used on the fronts but its like a $40 pair of sunglasses compared to Toyotas $250 pair of sunglasses. But looks identical from the outside. This was the $40 tint favour from a friend of a friend.

I agree that it's not as easy to see out when it's raining but I've been driving for 24 years with tinted windows and it does require you to pay more attention. I'm not going to lie, I've had 5% on my driver's windows before when I was younger and there were many times I had to roll my window down before turning left or right on a rainy night because I wanted to make sure I didn't hit the median or a pedestrian crossing in the dark. After trying various tints I settled on what I personally feel is an acceptable compromise for keeping the interior of my vehicle cool for me and the dog as well as keeping visiblity at night in all types of weather. To each his own when it comes to choosing tint but if you ever have issues seeing out when it's raining or snowing at night then maybe it is time to go a little lighter.

Where I live if you have them tinted too dark, you get to walk home or call a cab and your car is impounded which costs about $150 to get back. You are also invited to bolster the city coffers with payment of a fine. The LEO's were having some trouble with the guys running neon puke colored cars with fart pipes and black out windows so there was a crack down. The word got around fairly quickly once a few guys had suffered such indignation. They do not bother you if you keep it reasonable but be the fool and it is just one more thing they can use for probable cause if they need to stack up a bunch of fines when you get mouthy like several of the local kids did. I suspect it may get more prevalent this summer as the state is forcing the city to remove some of the speed trap cameras that have been proven to be nothing more than income generation devices. All in all the local officers are pretty reasonable unless you try to get snarky with them.

Same here. 35% is OK. 20% is pushing it and 5% is idiotic. Safety should always be paramount. For those who claim it keeps the car interior cooler I say turn the air conditioner up a notch and for more time. All you guys who think darker is cooler? In reality the guys you want so much to impress are just shaking their heads in wonder at the poor judgement you are using all in the name of coolness.
Yes I know 5% absorbs more heat but I just like the privacy in the back windows. I only keep medium/legal on front doors, I never have a problem seeing out of my windows. The clarity is awesome day or night.

I'm with you. If the shop I had mine done at offered the tint I wanted in 35% or higher, I would have gone with that. However they only stocked 30% and lower, so I went with 30%. Huper Optik Ceramic Tint Spec Sheet
They came out great, and I can see just fine while driving. The only issues I have are backing into my garage at night. So I do just roll the window down for that. I should add the disclaimer that I had that problem before with my un-tinted truck. My garage is just that dark.
I will say that I will never go any darker. No one can see into the truck as it sits now (back windows), and I can still see out just fine. Plus, now I have "some" protection from the fiery ball of gas beaming down on the Hell that is Houston during the half year long summer.

I went with the Huper Ceramic 40 all around and the 70 up front. The back is definitely darker but there's enough contrast to not have caused any issues yet but it'll probably get tacked on if I ever do get pulled over.
The 70 on the windshield has been great for keeping the heat down since all we get in CO is sun.
