Window Tinting, does anyone like their windows tinted dark like me?

The fact of the matter is what you are driving is probably more likely to get you pulled over than the tint. I am sure most LEO's would agree that the guy in the old Impala with 25" spinners in a shady part of time would be much more likely than somebody driving a new $40K SUV with the same tint to get pulled over.

I've got the mobile tint guy coming tomorrow. He said if I match the back, I will be one shade past legal. We are going to compare both and he said doubtful I would get hassled about it (as did my son) but bottom line is legal is legal, illegal is illegal and I don't like to draw undo attention to myself.

I have Attitude Black and I know it would look really good with super dark tint but my safety and that of LEO's is the first requirement. Cool comes second.
 
I tried 3m 30% on the fronts over the weekend (ended up taking it off as it was my 1st time tinting and I creased a window) but I agree with most above, stay above 30% and IF you are going to run it and it violates the law play nice if/when you get pulled over for it (you made the choice)

Side thought for any LEO's on the board, In the past I have always rolled down all my windows when pulled over (along with keys out of ignition, radio off, pulled off in a safe/common sense location even if it meant driving a couple blocks.....with flashers on) in the 4runner would you roll down the rear window as well? I know this is an opinion based question, just looking for thoughts

I just make sure I turn on dome and map lights + roll down the four windows. I got stopped last year (headlight burned out - warning) and officer told me he wished all people would do that. makes his life easier, safer, etc.

I am all for what ever makes their life easier! I never understood why people think the time and place to agrue about ones rights is with a man/women with a gun.
 
like I said earlier, If I pulls someone pulls over and upon my approach, the windows are down and hands are reasonably in sight, it sets a better tone for things to just go "better". Most of the time I am not hell bent on a ticket, as I feel people work to hard for their money, but sometimes people's attitude just earns them the ticket. I try not to prejudge, but some people just make themselves stick out and become targets with what they do to their cars and how they drive them. If you have a suspended license or warrants, don't drive like an a$$hole! Tints in my neck of the woods are not a huge concern, but if you have dark tints, loud muffler, no license plates and are speeding, wellllllll, you just may earn a ticket
 
I went 35% on the fronts. Looks fine to me.

Yep. Some of the stories my son have told me have had me rolling on the floor more than once.

Some people are just so stupid and full of attitude they dig their own ticket.

My kid has a rule - 1) cop an attitude or 2) lie to him and you ARE getting a ticket (or coupon as he likes to call them).

I have never understood people who think getting an attitude is going to help their case.

Check the attitude at the door, show some respect and normally you will get the same in kind.
 
While I'm a fan of even dark windows all the way around, I don't want any hassles. My truck has 20% all the way around and the other one has 30% all the way around. The back of both is pretty dark the way I like to have the back seat "out of sight" of prying eyes. If I have stuff in the back seat (bicycle, tools etc.) I don't want people seeing in my vehicle. My trucks and runner have factory rear tint but I wanted the back darker.

On the 4 runner I wimped out and simply put Lumar 50% ceramic all the way around. The back is pretty dark now and the front is noticeably darker but I'm legal and should not get pulled over. As for the trucks, I don't want to pull the tint but so far so good.

that isnt wimping out, that is being smart... so many people black out their windows with the cheap shit and for what? looks. Lumar ceramic and specifically their windscreen tints are amazing at UV reduction

That being said, I went with 15% on all rear windows, 6" windshield strip 5%, and 70% on driver/passenger front windows. The 70% just darkens the window a little, you still can see through it from the outside, but still enjoy the benefits of a tinted window. 3 years later, I haven't had any issues during vehicle inspections (once a year, and yes they will fail you for tinted windows) or by our local or state officials.

I think the biggest issue, when they can't see you or what you're doing when approaching your vehicle, must be an uneasy feeling. I know it would be for me.

A lot of it has to do with safety. Drivers should be able to see other drivers while on the road. Its important to be able to see the driver of the other cars at an intersection... to see if they are even looking at you/see you coming.

If you've ever driven a motorcycle, you'll know exactly what I'm referring to. Every intersection becomes an "I hope they see me" experience. If you can see the driver looking at you it allows you to move forward without necessarily hovering over the brake the entire way though an intersection.

It's nice to have tinted windows, but I don't mind leaving them untinted. I like to be able to see the other drivers.
