My 2011 TE also has it. I used it when I was caught in a snow storm 2 weeks ago. Didn't seem to be much use while the car was moving and the wipers were on. Parked with wipers off, worked great. Driving with wipers on intermittent - iced up on passenger side.

It does turn off after a few minutes. I have to check the button to see if it's lit from time to time when driving in the snow.
Mine was definitely on. The passenger side windshield wiper got encased in ice so much so that it didn't make contact with the windshield. This all happened while I was driving through a heavy wet snow storm.
Looking where the wires were on the windshield, I think I would have had to turn the windshield wipers off to have them rest where the heating element to get the ice melted. That wasn't an option at the time.

gotta leave the windshield defroster cranked in those situations before it begins icing up.
I didn't do that. It kept turning itself off every 10 minutes. Wish it would stay on longer so that you didn't have to keep pushing the button. Once the ice formed, it was all over.
I mean the actual window defroster. It's best to keep that on pretty high and keep the wipers moving.

Can someone please message me their VIN that has a 2011 SR5 with de-icer so I can look it up my system. I work at a Toyota dealer and I want to get to the bottom of this problem. It seems as though Toyota's website shows the de-icer as a standard feature across all trim levels when it only appears to come on Trial and Limited models. I recently purchased a 2011 SR5 that will be here 04/22-04-28 and I'll be pretty pissed if it doesn't come with de-icer since it's shown as a standard feature. Thanks for your help!
