would you buy this 4runner? 325k miles?

Below is the info from the ad and he is asking $6900. The motor was installed 70K miles ago but has the original transmission and transfercase. Do yall think the transmission and transfer case will last for a while before needing replaced? This vehicle will not be a daily driver but will be my backup vehicle and the one that i take to the woods twice a month for hunting. I dont plan on driving it a lot but the drive to the woods is a 4 hour round trip.


Runs and drives great. New tires, new radiator, new water pump & timing belt, new brakes, new ball joints, new cv axles, new fuel pump & filter, new spark plugs and wires, fresh fluids in whole vehicle, power Everything, has been driven daily for the past 5 years and well maintained. Never let's me down. Body has 325k, engine has 120k, runs perfect. Everything works except for sunroof.
List of modifications:
- 3" Toytec suspension lift
- 285/75/16 Kenda Klever MT
- CBI Offroad Fab Front bumper
- Smittybilt 8,000lb winch
- Cree LED pods and 20" light bar
- Curt Safari rack with extension
- 99+ model Sport model hood with scoop
Interior Mods:
- Sony head unit
- Polk Audio high quality waterproof door speakers(4)
- JL Audio 12w2v3 sub in custom box($400) with 2000w amp
- Interior LED swap on map/cargo lights

That price is a joke imo. I would not buy it at all. But if I had to I would not go over $3500. I'm guessing kbb at that mileage is under $3k. He is trying to get his money back on used parts he installed.

I think the price is a little high, but that's because in Southern California we have a lot to choose from. Love it when they say, Everything works, except..

Well, then NOT everything works.

For that price, everything would have to work....including the sunroof.

The interior better be spotless, which I'll be it isn't. And it better come with a bucket of cash in the back.
 
Wow at the price. I agree. That's why to much. Seems like the seller wants to get every penny they put into it. Sorry I wouldn't pay that much.

Im in North Alabama and there are a few bone stock or worse 4runners for under $4k. I have hime down to $6400 but i agree it still seems high but he is pretty firm on the $6400. I guess because the amount with even a lift is few and far between and im looking with a 100 mile radious.

At that mileage is going to be a money pit. Spend the money on a clean stock 4runner. Half the fun is building it b
 
i guess my next question is i wont be able to put a lift on for a bit after i buy a stock one so how well does a stock 3rd gen 4runner handle trails?
 
Depends on the condition of the frame at the rear lower control arm mounts.

The mods are nice, make sure the base condition of the platform is good. All of the thoughtful mods in the world don't mean much if the truck itself is battered and abused.

That said, I bought a 340k mile truck for $2000, did all the work myself, have spent ~$2000 on modifications and counting (needs tires still). I have a parts truck so that helps with repair cost significantly. All in, I'm at about $4000, I have an ARB bumper and winch sitting on a pallet right now, and I'm only lifted 2" vs. 3" on Toytecs.

So what I'm saying basically is that you could build what they're selling for less if you wanted to invest some sweat equity. But if not, I think what they're asking is on the high side of fair market value. If you're interested, throw them a bid.

Ive been talking to him this morning and he is hard firm at 6400 because the mods were $3k and he wants to get that back is basically what he said.

Oh the lament of the car enthusiast. Some folks don't understand that mods only increase the value / appeal of a car to a very small segment of the market.

If he wants his $$ back on the mods, he should remove them and sell them individually.
 
Im starting to eat my words cause evidently no one sells a decent 4wd 4runner that is a 3rd gen for under $5k with under 250k miles

What about this?

1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited and it runs and drive greats and it loaded with cold a/c and a moon roof, everything works great on it and it has 178--- miles on it and the tires are good and it's 4x4 and I want $4,200
 
That seems fair as long as the frame and body are clean. Try and talk him down to below 4k if you can and thatd be a solid deal IMO.

Thats what I would be looking at. I got mine at 180k miles. Paid $5200 5 years ago. With the money you save you could buy the lift kit.
