Be careful. Ad says financing available which means it's may be a shit dealer that got it at auction for god knows what reason.

Don't assume the frame is good. It could have spent a lot of time in a different climate. Get a CarFax and see where it's been. Also, get a pic of the dash were the rear dif lock button would be( left side of the steering wheel)
Looks like a good truck otherwise.
Im currently waiting on the VIN to do just that.
yea its a low time dealer. Im getting the VIN to run a carfax and will be doing some hardcore checking.

That is a good point. I know you said that you barely have the time to drive 100 miles to look at prospects, but if you can find the time, you can find some great deal in other parts of the country, and actually save a lot of money.
If you're willing to spend $6900, then if you find one elsewhere for lower, do the math on a 1 way plane ticket and taking a day or 2 off of work. If you find one in the $3-$4k range, plus a few hundred dollar plane ticket, plus a few hundred bucks for missing a few days of work, you can still save several thousand, and have a low mileage, rust free gem, in the year, color, trim, etc you want.
Then you can also drive it back and really get to know it. Obviously make sure the seller is not a scam first, though, and get plenty of pictures and history up front.

I don't know what you're shooting for, but I've owned 3 of these and looked at at least 50 more while searching.
The guy selling his truck for $6400 (with mods) is selling a $3k truck for $6k... so at the end of the day, what you're left with are a bunch of mods tacked on to a $3k shell. Problem is, if that shell craps the bed, none of those $3k worth of mods are going to help.
Why not instead spend that $6k on an exemplary, low mileage, well maintained truck and add mods to that platform? That way you know the truck is/was well maintained and taken care of, and that the mods were done right with no shortcuts taken. It's not instant gratification, but deep down you'll have that peace of mind that you can't buy and have welded on.
I think that's what you're now gunning for, after reading through the remainder of the thread. Either way, good luck with the search!

I mean I got my 97 4wd 170k for $2800 in nj. Clean body. To each is own you know. But I agree with above. Rather get a clean clean clean 4Runner with lower miles and go from there. All original cars! With low mileage well kept go for more then moded.

Tell him to take it to Carmax and get a free appraisal. They will inspect it and do a carfax and give him a print out for free. They will find the damage and list it and bring him down to reality you also get a free carfax. If he wont do it you know he is hiding something. Tell him you want a copy of a carmax report or no deal. Haggle off the carmax price.
I did a carmax myself(after post was created) and his vehicle shows almost nothing as far as service goes. Either he did the work himself or a shop that didn't report it. All it shows is oil changes and an alignment
I stumbled upon a 2000 limited with 235k miles. Body and interior look perfect and they have records of repair. It does have original timing belt/ waterpump so that concerns me but they will be sending me the VIN so I can run a carfax and see if that shows anything. This one has the locker and they are asking $5000.

Carmax the company and Carfax different. Google see if he has a "CARMAX" that buys and sells cars near him. You make a appointment they evaluate the vehicle and give you a cash offer with details of a basic inspection. Its free even if you do not sell it to them. They will note any seat rips, dents, etc etc. Its not a full on mechanical inspection, but they test drive it and run a diagnostic on it.

Again its free and you dont need to take the offer but you get more details in writing before you drive to inspect it. Ive used them when dealers gave my low-ball offers on trade ins.
