Would you go on a 600 mile road trip with a torn CV boot?

I tried to fox it this past weekend but I could not bust the axle nut loose.

I have knee surgery tomorrow so i can't fix it before Thanksgiving and we have 600 mile round trip drive to embark on?

It this doable/advisable knowing the CV Boot has a good size tear in it?

I've driven mine with a fresh tear roughly 500 miles from Colorado to Kansas. And probably took some time to fix it driving to and from work after that. I'd say you're good as long as you don't get dirt/mud in it or loose a lot of grease.

I drove with a torn boot for about 1k miles. But it was a small tear and not fully separated. Did some off roading too which probably wasn't smart. But I rebooted it and its been fine since.

If someone can wrap in in plastic wrap and a zip tie on either end, this will prevent a lot the grease from flying out. I'd only do this if it were an OEM axle, but if its just a parts store axle, not even worth the effort.

Its not a huge deal if it can't be fixed right now.

I was told three years ago both my CV Boots were torn not on my 4Runner but on another Auto i own, and yes they are badly torn.
In my city the streets have for years been in really poor condition with many pot holes and just plain bad conditions that beat your auto to death everytime drive on them.

That was three years ago and around 14,000 miles and it has not caused any problems with how it handle's, but this Wednesday i am taking it in for the replacement of both complete CV Axles right and left and new Struct shock spring assemblies.

I don't advise anyone to keep driving with torn or damaged CV Boots, dirt and water will ruin them and getting them cleaned and repacked with grease and a new boot might keep you from having them replaced because they are beyond repair.

The reasons i have waited over three years to get this work done is first the needed money for the repair's and i was waiting for some street improvement that never happened.

As long as there’s no signs of the cv being badly worn or damaged especially if you’re swapping it out with a reman or new cv axle later you’re good. If it’s a new tear it will if not already make a big mess with the grease to clean up but nothing to worry about if you’re trip doesn’t include river crossing or mud runs

Went about 25,000 miles and several years on a torn boot before I replaced the axle with Napa, saved them for rebooting, they're still good.
