WTB: 3rd Gen 99-01 4x4 5spd Cash in hand - any distance

So I see that I am definitely not alone in the search for a well to do 3rd gen. I figured I'd throw some chips in the pot and start a thread.

WTB:

• Black, Blue, White or Green (being WAY too picky for 17 year old trucks, but oh well)
• 1997-2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5
• 5-speed Manual w/ rear e-locker (preferred, not necessity)
• Under 200k miles or + depending on maintenance history/cleanliness
• $4000 + or - depending on distance, miles, maintenance history, etc the budget can fluctuate but that is my median.
• Mild builds/tasteful mods accepted.
• Cash in hand
• Will Travel for right truck

This will also serve as a discussion thread on possibilities, the search process, questions, etc. I'll throw up some I find for others to view and move on if they want as well. Not really in a rush to buy and I enjoy looking for these in my spare time so might as well see if I can help someone else find theirs too! Helps me if we talk about some of them so that if I do find one I can move on I know it's the right one.

You can scratch the 2001 if you want the 5 speed. You may also need more cash to seal the deal on one matching your criteria.

I wanted to wait until someone else said this - unless you're willing to do some work, which negates the whole point of looking for a decent sample at the 16-year and older mark.

Be willing to pay for a vehicle in good shape - it's way cheaper than the proverbial 'deal' that is seldom seen among these models. You want a '99+ anyway, so be selective if you can and start with the best one you can find.

Budget is as flexible as the prices of 3rd gen 4runners...

Bought the bmw in knoxville a couple years ago. Great road trip, not a bad drive at all up 81. Brother is at VT so splits it up well. If yours was a manual I'd definitely consider it for sure.

Easy swap. There is a shop about 30 minutes SouthEast of me that has 60+ 3rd gens and Tacomas. I'm sure you could find one on the cheap

Nope, manual transmission went by the wayside after 2000. All '01 & ups are automatic unless someone did a swap after the fact.

But no worries, definitely a lot of us on here looking for the same things. The more I look the more I realize what an idiot I was selling the previous truck. But oh well.

If you have a higher budget the truck posted in Arlington is awesome and drives great. Owner is great person and very knowledgeable.
