Wtb: High Mileage 4th gen 4runner, V8 4wd. Preferably shadow mica, red or either blue. I am looking to restore and don't mind a few things wrong because they will probably be replaced anyways. So, if you are looking to trade in a 4runner put that value along with the post and n I can pay more.

I know it sounds crazy but it is what I am wanting to do. I don't want to spend money on nice interior because I want to reupholster the seats. Rip out the carpet, put sound deadening install new carpet. Change the roof carpet as well. Mechanically I am kinda iffy I either want to rebuild, buy another one, or get a small block 400(this is more of a dream). The headers will be replaced with doug thorley or something similar. Then the best shocks springs maybe even coilovers.

Then keep it going and pass it onto my son 20 years later when he can drive.
 
I have an '05 Limited V6 4wd sitting in Nashville with 272 ish miles on it. My brother was driving it since his jeep broke, then he broke the 4Runner, too; or so he says? Haven't had time to go check it out. It's still running, but sounds like the head gasket based on his very poor explanation.. I had him tow and park it. If you'd be replacing the engine anyway, i guess it wouldn't matter that it is currently a v6 model. It is Dorado gold, leather interior (heated), JBL factory audio with sub/amp, spoiler, no scoop. It's yours for $3k if you're interested. I was going to restore it, but I'm moving to CO. Let me know if this is close enough to what you're looking for and we can go from there.

What's your engine plan when you are looking for HM and it might die in a few years? Doesn't sound well-planned out. You can't really rebuild a Toyota engine unless it's the very old 22R/RE's/etc from the 80s Toyota 4x4's.

Expand your search. In OK they are cheaper and don't have the rust. Putting any other engine in T4R 4th gen would be a chore. Especially replacing the transfer case and transmission. The 4.7 has it's starter under the intake for a reason. Rebuilding a 4.7 is expensive too, a gasket set is over $300.

Another option is by a wrecked one and fix that. My #3 and #4 where both insurance auction cars.
