Ok T4R it has always been my thinking that with Toyota's if you weren't sure what the noise was just wait a bit and it would get louder. It has been about a year and it progressively getting louder. I first noticed it faintly after the motor swap at 3-4k when you let off but kept throttle pressure on. As time went on the noise happened at lower RPM's, after a recent trip 1500 miles it was noisy as hell coasting down the mountains and backsides of hills, but would be suppressed by throttle input. This motor was an ebay purchase through JIS Engineering out of Texas. It currently has 31,000 miles and is 10,000 outside of their warranty
, in the event its a main bearing well that just sucks. I have a short video with sound of the truck idling that is taking for ever to upload to photobucket.....
I've used a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise and sadly its within the engine block I believe.
I thought perhaps something exhaust related, but the heat shields aren't metal and they could not possibly contact the pipe on such a regular cycle as to cause this type of noise. It has a bearing sound to it (swirling a ball bearing in a tin can with a slight bump in the motion).
Now I shouldnt drive this any further until the problem can be identified and addressed, but I had to get my daughter from school. Now there is an intermitent oil light flashing going with the knock,,,,, at a loss WTF?
Videos for your listening displeasure (same 3 videos just a different format for those on tapatalk)
