XM Radio in 2007

I looked for previous posts but could not find. I am thinking of upgrading my non-nav JBL with SAT button to XM. There are aftermarket units and Toyota sells parts. I am reasonably handy, but not sure what is required to install it myself. Anyone go through this and have instructions they can share? Or, am I better off giving the dealer a bundle?

I had a JBL system and I did Sirius... that being said, it shouldn't be too dissimilar. I would first goto Crutchfield and do the "fit my car" wizard. It will tell you the components you need.

I'm not big on stereo equipment but I was able to do all the work myself. You'll have to run cables and antenna. And you'll have to tap into a power source. If you do a search for power that shouldn't be a problem. The first time I did it I think I went straight from my fuse box under the steering wheel to the left.

Getting the right connectors and running your antenna will probably be he hardest part. I ran mine just in front of my spoiler so I had to go through my headliner. It wasn't to hard.

I went with this, for Sirius, but I'm sure it's out there for XM as well. This also integrates your iPod where you can control, charge and see the song info on the stereo. You keep all your controls on the steering wheel as well. Install is plug and play and extremely easy.

Dice Mediabridge MB-1500 + Audiovox SC-C1 module (for SAT radio)

MB-1500 can stream MP3s and Pandora radio through bluetooth from any A2DP phone

If you have a newer Android/Blackberry/iPhone/Symbian smartphone with latest OS (i believe symbian requires a patch file to be installed), you can control menus for MP3s through AVRCP 1.3 bluetooth standard.

It also has a port for direct plug in of the SC-C1

After connecting the iPod controller through the Peripheral unit, did your Aux jack in the center console also continue to work?

Also, where did you end up mounting the Peripheral and SC-C1 unit, as well as antenna wiring?

Good questions.. so here is what I did. I installed the two pieces of gear that came with the kit in my glove box. Top piece is the scc1 and the bottom is the media Gateway. pic below.

I took the dash apart with some help from another post someone had on how to remove trim pieces. Once I got the center parts off I could access the radio. I removed the 4 screws that held it in place but there was some adheasion to the frame. I had to really crank on it to break it free.

Once it was loose it was easy to move around. I pulled rig out and installed the single cable to the open position on the back of the stock radio. That wire bundle went to the media gateway on the isimple device. That device then has two ps/2 style ports on it. Port one I attached the inclded cable and port 2 I attached the cable to the scc1 sirius radio. The port 1 cable sounds like it does options. This one had a white and red RCA style cable and a male 3.5mm stereo headset jack. This can be used as an addtional aux in. You can see from the photo above I shoved the pieces into the small micro glove box within the main glove box. Fit like a glove. Put a few pieces of double stick tape to just keep it from rolling around.

When the unit powers up and you press the sat/am button you can use the tunning knob to select which port you want to access. In my case I pretty much leave it on Sirius. However, if I wanted to hook up an mp3 player I could use that and still have use of the Aux port within the center console. So in essence I gained a 2nd aux port.
