so here are some tires and some prices i got quoted today and was wondering out of these tires what you would choose and if any aren't worth the rubber they're made from? i'm going to buy tires through this company as they are about 200 cheaper then lez's and discount.


all are 285/75/16's price includes mount balance and alignment taxes, otd

but im putting up my vote for the goodyears, so far they have done great in every category ive thrown at them, no excuses

I don't have experience with either of them, but there are a couple of guys that we go wheeling with that have the cooper stt and they would buy the same tire again. The dunlop, cooper and duratrac look mean it's a tough one

honestly i'm leaning toward the sst's as well but my gut keeps saying stick with the bfg's, durability is a big thing with me and from reading threads on other forums only a few have gotten more then 40K from the tire, they are still newish on the market though....


what do you guys think as far as longevity goes?

i think it must also be a washington thing they seem to be about $20 more a tire here for some strange reason, i can just change the zip code on the tire sites to see how i'm getting screwed for living in a progressive state, lol

Dude, I just got the Dunlop M/T Maxx tractions for WAAAAAAAY cheaper than that on discounttiredirect.com. No tax, no shipping. My OTD total for 4 tires shipped was < $700, I paid a Goodyear shop to mount and align for $125. These are the best snow tires I've ever had in 17 (I'm 32) years of living and driving in snow every year and they're doing great on and off road too. Check this price (scroll all the way down):

The STT's are pretty sweet, if you want something a little less aggressive, the ST's are nice too. i have em, and ive gone through some baddd mud....

I like the Coopers also. I had a set of Discoverers and loved them.. I've got General AT2's on my Cherokee and they are nice too.. You might look at the Cooper S/T also.. I have bought my last 2 sets of tires from Treadepot.com and Tirerack.com .. There is a local guy that mounts and balances them for me for about $15 each.. One of the big name local discount tire places quoted me $150 just to mount and balance 4 on my bare rims and acted like he was cutting me a deal.. I'm guessing that quote was so high because it must have included a large amount of KY..

The price for the Duratracs seems really high to me.

If you can't care how long they last go for the STTs. You might only get 30k out of them.

you try price matching online prices with discount tire? check out Discount Tires, Custom Wheels, Rims, Goodyear, Michelin, Cooper Tires
great site for low prices, and using it to get the tire shops down in price

i just want to thank all of you SO SO much, this discussion has the potential of saving me hundreds of dollars, i'm crapping bricks right now over the price of these tires, and i agree they all seem high to me, but everywhere i go i keep getting these crazy high prices!!!!!!

checking the links you guys gave me now, and will report back.
again thank you, saving this much money is a big deal. (if i can get a set for $700 opposed to 1K)

really i'm about a 50/50 split, this is my DD (about 100 mi a day )
but every weekend i head to the mountains for skiing,rock climbing,hiking,camping or something outdoors, i mostly see washboard roads with light mud and heavy snow.

i was also going to rant real quick, who in the hell buys a 33 inch or 285 low-profile all street tire? i don;t think i like those people very much, lol...seems like the land rover se crew with thier lowered suv's......gggrrrr

(getting angry from search teh cl for a good used set and they all are these gay low-pro styles.

haddix- That is very rare in my opinion. If you look at reviews most people don't get a lot of miles out of them.

theizzardking- I guess it really depends on how much you want to spend, how long you want them to last, and if you really need a true MT.

yeah that's a big deal on this expense for me, as you can see from teh post above i drive about 80-100 miles to work and back a day, so they add up quickly, i was looking at it and i've driven about 19K in the last 6 months, with road trips to las vegas,oregon,cali, montana, and idaho...... and on all of those trips i took crazy mountian roads for a bit of adventure from time to time.....

so it's tough decideding what i really need and what will last me, i.e. most life for the buck while still giving me the ability to go places i want to be.:shrug:

yeah, i'm not making this easy on anyone am i lol......
