Yet another vibration thread

Hello all. I searched extensively and have found similar threads (3 pages) but either they haven't been resolved or don't exactly fit my scenario.

I have a 2016 SR5, completely stock with 4500 miles on the odometer. Last month I noticed the following:

From about 37 to 45 mph and lower rpm (1500-3000) I have a slight vibration noise and can feel it through the gas pedal. Audibly it almost sounds like it occurs every half revolution of the tires (and seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle). It is more pronounced when I am off the gas decelerating but occurs while accelerating too. I am aired to the correct PSI on all 4 tires. The truck tracks straight on the open road. There is no vibration coming through the steering column. This seemingly started randomly, i.e. - didn't start after engaging / disengaging 4WD or anything like that.

This weekend I am headed to the dealership for my 5k service and will have them check alignment and balance. Are there any other things I should have them inspect? I am trying to learn via the amazing information on this forum but I am mechanically challenged so any advice is much appreciated!

Mine was terrible tire balance. Have you done anything (mods) to the car yet?

No modifications yet, complete stock. My rims have been pretty dirty this winter and I don't see any clean spots like a missing weight but like I said, I'll definitely get balance and alignment checked.

Check brake rotors as well. There is a slim chance of warped rotor. Might as well get that checked out while they taking wheels off.

Mine was balance and tire pressure but i do havee rated tires

make sure there isn't any ice/snow in the wheels.
Sometimes a good thaw in a shop will solve that problem. I'll bet it's one of the most common things they see in the shop during the winter around here. But that's something you would feel through the steering wheel

A worn ujoint will cause a good vibration at a specific rpm range that you will definitely feel through the gas pedal, but a ujoint failure at your mileage is unlikely.

If it's repeatable, I'd trust a good tech to find that. Likely more accurately than a forum full of yahoos (myself included). Take 'er in!

Try driving in S4 at those speeds. Earlier models had a queer 5-4-5 downshifting/upshifting at that speed.

Mine was needle bearings in front Diff

Bad needle bearings in front diff and left CV shaft had to be replaced as well.
All better now.

I'm super curious because mine had/has the exact same issue. Can feel it through the pedal and rotates like it's something spinning. The dealer couldn't find anything (of course). I'm gonna take it to a different dealer in the area in the next few weeks but maybe your guys will solve it.

I have 16 sr5p, 3200 mi., dead stock including oem Bridgestone duelers. I get that sort of half revolution vibration as well, though it's relatively minor. The sound stops after I've driven for a few miles. Given the premium on lower rolling resistance and mileage designed into oem tires, and the fact that it's still winter here in New England, I'm thinking the vibration has something to do with the stock tires' compound warming up; the softer they get during travel, less bump sound/ vibration.

So I've had this noise with the stock tires and with some BFGs I put on a month ago. Doesn't seem to be tire related to me based on that. I had a friend check out the brakes and he said that looked fine so I'm not sure.

I tried two more things:

1. Moved the shifter into 'S4' and drove at the offending speeds - Still occurred
2. Drove at speeds in 4H - Still occurred

I thought the "tires warming up" was an interesting idea. Unfortunately this is not the case for me as I've completed some 100+ mile trips in varying temperatures but the issue is there from start to finish.

I hope your problem is repeatable. Also be sure you ride along on the test drive - it greatly improves the tech's hearing.

I don't own a 4 runner . I did a test drive 2 weeks ago and I also felt this weird vibration on a new 2016 4 runner at 60-65 MPH . It was a short drive , it seems the same as you describe.

It did feel like a bad tire belt , like that type of vibe.

I have a 16 year old silverado looking for a new vehicle now. my silverado runs with no vibes so I was surprised with how this had vibes .

I hope this is resolved as the 4 runner looks like a good vehicle for me now.

For what it's worth...I'd still buy even with this. It's annoying if you aren't using the radio but I still love this thing. I'd love to get it fixed for sure but even knowing this now, wouldn't be a deal breaker.

I totally agree. Even though this vibration is a nuisance, the 4runner is my favorite vehicle I've owned so far. I've been through about 16 vehicles with the most recent being a 2012 Pathfinder. IMO the Nissan was a junky toy compared to this machine. Buy the 4runner, you'll be happy!

No resolve

Went to the dealership Saturday for 5k service and diag / road test for vibration. 3.5 hours later they could not find anything wrong. They said they checked, tire condition, alignment, balance, rotors, cv and u-joints and no issues. They / I could not replicate on the road test (of course). I guess I'll just have to turn up the radio when it happens again :dance:
