Yep! Are you air force?
I was, stationed at Altus AFB....what a dump. Assigned to MAC, but we had a SAC detachment there at the time. (KC 135's) Altus was the AF's C5 A's training base.
At the time, they parked about 10 of the worlds largest and most expensive planes right in the middle of the worst of Tornado alley....what a trip.
I Would have gave many body parts to be transfered to Tinker, or just about anywhere else except Minot, ND. 3 years of depression! Spent almost all my off time at Sheppard AFB some 90 miles away. (Nursing school...real live women). However, that was some 37 years ago. It might have changed since then, but I doubt it......Thanks for your service my friend and I hope you are happy and doing well with the AF. As much as I ***** about Altus, my time in the AF was some of the best days of my life. Wrap your arms around this time of your life and remember every day. Good luck and be safe.

Air Force here. Just left Sheppard 2010. Here at Minot. Traded in my 2wd Titan for a full time 4wd V8 Runner. Never had a problem in my Titan due to the purchase of Blizzaks. Tires make all the difference. But... I dirt bike a lot and need the 4wd to get in spots that a 2wd just will not do.
Keep the 2wd for now. If you get orders to Minot/North get the 4wd TE. But, if you're never going to be happy unload the SR5 and get the TE as well.
You sound like a smart guy "paid off Runner already" so I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

first off good luck finding one, i'm in okc and even find a SR5 4x4 thats not all loaded out, and they all seem to want MSRP for them too.
Dang good economy! people dont understand this oil town and how well were doing.

I did 5yrs at Minot. I was Security Police. Started humping B-52s in the 5th then switched to ICBMs in the 741st! I did Minot, Charleston, Saudi, Turkey, Iceland. 92-03 working on the Fed side now!

Good to see you "thawed" out. Thanks for taking that duty, I would not want it. I do not do well in the cold, never did. Thanks for your service and good luck with the Fed's!
Joneseyyy, I think I can speak for at least most of the current duty and vets here on the forum, thanks for your recognition. It does mean a lot to us, it matters.

Well I had no choice lol. I was supposed to go to Hahn AB but when I was at Ft Dix for ABGD Lvl 1 after SP School, I got diverted to Minot since Hahn was closing. All of us who had Hahn ended up getting sent to Northern Tier nuke bases. Im glad I started at a nuke base because it kept me sharp and made all the other duty seem like cake. No thanks needed, I was happy for all the amazing things I got to do serving in the USAF and I never would have landed this current job without all the great training and responsibility the USAF gave me!

HA 3 years??? you got lucky!! I was stuck at Minot for 10 years then after my good USAFA assignment and the Kun, i was at Malmstrom 8 yrs, bad part was I have no association with Missiles.. thank you for your service

Just think, you could have been born Canadian, ended up in the Canadian Armed Forces and been stuck doing base defense drills at CFB Cold Lake, digging trenches in permafrost in February. Now that I think about it, it was probably the same, but instead of a thank you, service just gets you dirty looks in Canada.

For once, luck was not at issue. 1 year Lackland, 3 years Altus, tour over, go home. That's not luck, that's just the contract. If I was lucky, I would have gone to Italy or Germany or Thailand etc. etc. No, I got Altus.......I was so happy. Back to ya as to the thanks and it was a good sob story!

Nice, what did you do at USAFA? I'm a grad... don't judge me too quickly.
Cold Lake eh? (no pun intended) We go up there for some exercises from time to time. I hear there's not much there.
Anyways, yea... I want a TE. Someone trade me for my 4x2 SR5.

I can see you were ecstatic with Altus, lol. Germany or England would have been great, was on my dream sheet since I went in. However I ended up with a good retirement and 70% disability to go with (concurrent pay).
@ Laubage, Medical Logistics (Supply, Medical Contracts, Vehicles, WRM w/ EMEDS, ect, Purchasing) everything behind the scenes that made the 10th MDG run.

So.... here's the deal. I talked to my roommates tonight and they suggested to just trade in my SR5 instead of modding it. Their logic was that a soccer mom who wants the best MPG out of her 4runner would not be interested in a modded out 2wd 4runner. So, if I mod out a 2wd the soccer mom won't want it, but the offroad enthusiast will not want it either.
Their suggestion was to suck it up, get it right this time around and then drive the TE 4runner until it goes to the salvage lot. I think I'll go back to the dealer I bought it from when I get back from my deployment. Maybe they can help me out. At least I'll have the loyal customer argument on my side.

If you want to MOD, your doing the right thing. Hopefully the dealer will treat you right. Used cars are at a premium right now, so its a good time to sell/trade. I recently traded a tired GX 470 and got a crazy high offer from the dealer, so I walked away with a big smile, and a new T4R. :thumb3:
