Thumbs up 255/75/17 installed! Pics:-)

Well after much contemplation I settled on some new tires. I say settled because I had my heart set on another but the under $800 OTD price (including alignment and road hazard) forced me to use my head. :-(
I now have 5 (yes, 5) Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor’s in the 255/75/17 size. (Yes, the 255/75/17 spare fits and I have the stock resonator/tailpipe with a Hidden Hitch receiver.) I really wanted the same size Revo II but times are tight, it’s not 2007 anymore

As it turned out I couldn't be happier

1st thing- The size… 255/75/17 was a “home run” for me. The fitment is awesome! They just squeeze in with no rubbing, no trimming and it's a 32"+ tire. The next added bonus is that my optimistic MPG meter has settled on a higher value, of course the jury is ‘still out’. There are many variables, speedo corrections etc and 35 miles isn’t enough to definitively say anything. On the subject of speedo’s my GPS says 51mph while the speedo says 49mph, so 4%

Before I comment on noise, ride and handling understand I am coming off of the very civilized and smooth Michelin Cross-Terrains at 34psi cold with 3-4/32’s of tread left. Ride, for my short drive the ride seems good. It is a hair firmer but not at all harsh. This tire is a heavier than the OE by 3-4lbs each and that never helps plus the Michelin was designed with a smooth ride as a top goal. Right now the new tires are set at 40psi cold. I am going to let a little out. My suspicion is 37-38psi will be perfect Handling, Holy Crap! It is crazy good! I was fully anticipating steering response and sidewall roll would be greater with this tire compared with the Michelin, not so (by the seat of my pants). The steering response is phenomenal! Quick right-left transitions don’t exhibit any more tire slop than the Michelins did, in fact maybe less. there's less of a tendency to track minor grooves in the road too (that could be in part due to a fresh alignment).

2nd- The GYSA specifically: The first comment, IMHO, speaks mostly to the size rather than the GYSA specifically. The GYSAs noise levels are up a hair from the CTs (go figure ). To notice a difference you must turn the radio off and to my surprise on one type of pavement the GYSA’s were quieter than the CTs. Overall just a touch more noise. We’re getting some rain in a couple of days and I’ll report back as I learn more.

EDIT/Update: After a few hundred miles and some rain I can offer the following: a) The GYSA's, in my case, need to be a bit softer than I would've thought, 35PSI seems to be right. b) MPG meter is very close to 'dead-on', within a tenth! c) MPG seems to be up a little bit, just a couple of tenths but it's up not down. d) The noise is up a bit but not in a bad or intrusive way. e) The rain/wet/puddle-crashing performance of the GYSA is great!

Overall I'm thrilled with the ride/drive and looks. I would very enthusiastically recommend the 255/75/17 or 255/70/18 size. If you think the GYSA is a good candidate for your needs and wants then I say do it...

BTW, I have double and triple checked, no rubbing. It's like the 4th gen was designed for this tire and some bumper height requirement forced Toyota into the 30.5" tire category.

Edit/Update, Final: See my last post here and this: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/perfor...installed.html

The wheel is cut to show where the tire has the least clearance.

My helper…

Hambone, Paraordnance and anybody else feel free to add a pic of yours. It'll just help the next guy wanting to know about 255/75/17's or 255/70/18's

I'm waiting for a brown truck as we speak I'm going to load them in a back and take it to the trie shop as soon as UPS shows up. Will take some snow pictures as we got another 5" of white stuff last night. Funny but I come from Mich CT as well so it will be very similar experience for me

No rubbing at all. No Spidertax either. J.A.'s website has wonderful how-to for fenderliner adjustment at the bottom of the page for 'wheelspacers'. http://www.top4runners.com/ja/2007/wheelspacers.html

Most of the brands list this size as 32.1”. They're about .4” taller than most 265/70/17's. What are your BFG's? They're 31.5"+ or right at 32 also, right?

Looking good, Ive been thinking about picking up a set of tires to have on hand. You said you got 5 so I assume no probs fitting the spare with this size? They are pretty cheap on TR.
