Had surgery today to correct my deviated septum and sinus "disease".
Septopasty and turbinates surgery. Other than being very dried out/up, I feel pretty good...Might be the Percocet talking though...

(Hey Zak, I'll see you a hand surgery, and raise you a nose surgery!!)

Backstory: I was hit by a car (1971 Impala) when I was 3 or 4 and suffered some pretty bad facial fractures, including my nose.
Got my nose broke again when I was 8 when I tangled with a large metal pole in a school yard. I never had my nose fixed then because I was too young- bones were still growing. So, I finally had it corrected and I'm looking forward to being able to breathe better through my nose.

Question, has anyone else here had this surgery??

No, but I've been thinking about it. I broke my nose several times when I was a kid too. What was the surgery like?
 
It wasn't too bad... Theyactually go in with a small cutter//trimmer and trim out all of the bent/deformed cartilage.
If you have sinus problems, snore or have sleep apnea this is supposed to help with those things. I have terrible sinus'and end up with ear and throat infections.

As for the nose itself, I don't know if it's any straighter because it's swollen some and full of packing. But really, the surgery is about helping relieve the symptoms of allergies and infections.

Should talk to an ear, nose throat Dr if you suffer from those things I listed above...

I would probably benefit from this.
the interior wall on my right side is kinked inwards, somewhat blocking the airflow. its getting blasted with the air as I breath, and causes it to dry and crack, and thus bleed.

to my knowledge, its never been broken, but when I went to get it cauterized, the doc said it HAD been broken, and didn't heal straight.

that's news to me...
 
Yeah, you should talk to a doctor. The nose/sinuses are very complicated and if one thing is out of whack, it leads to problems with other parts.

I really had no clue how bad things were for me until I saw a specialist and how much my deviated septum was causing my problems.

Thanks man! Recovery is one of those, "as tolerated" things....
I'm able to move around now, but no exercise//lifting for at least two weeks.
BTW, How's the hand doing?

Yeah, I had it and hope your results are better than mine. I don 't want to dampen your expectations but the only benefit I saw was my septum is now as it should be but everything else is the same.
 
Yeah, I've heard that from others. Being that I can breathe better out of my nose with all the gunk in there (than before), I'm hopeful.
 
Dude. Pita surgety. Ive had it done twice. Growing up I could always breathe way better out if the right better than than the left. Had the surgery done by recommendation from my doctor, and it healed funny, almost blocking off my right nostril completely. 2nd surgery worked like a charm, but I still get clogged up for no reason from time to time. And for that, I have afrin. Haha.

Nothing feels better than when they pull the splints out!
 
Having surgery of any kind sucks , but I love waking up from anesthesia and feeling loaded a lll day. Last time I came out a recovery nurse, older blonde angel type woman, ( my favorite kind) was running her fingers thru my hair and talking to me. Every time she stopped I would grab her hand and put it back on my head.

Turns out she was my wifes old boss from years before.

And how! Doc said go home and rest, no eating. We went right to breakfast and I ate like a king! I was reading the funny page and my wife had to flip it over so I was reading them correctly.

Anesthesia doesn't do bad things to me. My kid had his knee redone and he threw up for 2 straight days.

I'm the same way, got home on Monday and ate two bowls of chicken noodle soup, threw on a movie and took a nap.

It's not the anesthesia that gets me, it's the opiates they give me through my IV that kick my butt. But I usually just get the shakes for about an hour but never any real problems.


And ddnww, what's this rolling stuff all about....?? I haven't heard that term since I was living in Florida back in the 90's!

from the way he described how she was running her fingers thru his hair and when she'd stop he would put her hand back on his head. lol.. .thats how people who are rolling on ecstasy get.
