1st gen horn contact repaired, not working

I bought my '87 with the horn wired straight to the battery. I shimmed the round plate on the back of the horn button with a trimmed wheel bearing star nut lock, just like I did on my '85. I cleaned the plate and applied electric grease. The wire terminal was damaged so I replaced that as well. The horn still does not work. I checked the fuse in the engine bay. Has anyone else had or heard of this issue?

Do the hazards work? They share a fuse.

If so, unplug the horn and jump power and ground straight from the battery, make sure it works on it's own. Then have somebody honk while you look for 12v at the connector. If it's there, then the horn circuit is good and you've got trouble on the ground path. If not, trace it back.

Thanks kid. I forgot to mention I also put on the hella supertone from my '85. The fuse is good and the hazards work. The P.O. tapped the green/red stripe wire in the steering column and hooked it to the battery.

I gave up trying to trace the factory wire. I hot wired the horn feed right at the top of the column like it was before, but I hooked it to a 15 amp fuse in my aux. fuse block. It keeps blowing the fuse when I hit the button. The terminals at the horn are new. I tried a brand new horn I have and same. :ybrick::boom:
