Slightly off topic.. But we really need to update that saying, maybe "That and $5.95 will get you a cup of coffee".

I'm excited to see the new 4r, I don't believe be much different than a smaller sequoia or a bigger highlander. Thats what car companies do, it allows for the most interchangeability of parts, which means cheapest production cost. If every toyota used the same headlight for example, the price of that headlight would go way down.

I can't wait. Hopefully these will take the Fj's spot as well as being an updated 4runner. That way we can get some real off road options from the factory. The 4runner brand is going strong, nice job Toyota.

That latest picture with the FJ helps me put the size more into perspective. I don't think this new generation 4Runner looks to be much bigger (if at all) than the current generation.

Great news! But I knew it wouldn't get bigger. The "bigger is better" mentally is hopefully fading in the U.S.. And since this platform is global, I didn't expect it to grow.

I also highly doubt that is was completely reengineered. They are already spending so much money on R&D for other parts of the market.

The only thing the 4Runner was really lacking was a little more headroom, which I hope this refresh has.

That looks like the international version called the prado(sp). The steering wheel is on the right and the wheels in the first pic are Lexus GX wheels. Since the 4runner and GX are both coming out next year, we are probably getting some of these pics confused for different models of the same base including the prado.

The Hilux Surf is the right-hand drive (RHD) version of the 4Runner in Japan, so couldn't that explain the RHD in the photo?

Not sure about the center stack, but I could definitely see the current instrument cluster and steering wheel evolving into that spy photo.

The front photo reminds me of the 2010 Lexus RX, for some reason. Not so much the headlight assembly, but the way the front fender flows into the bumper.

I could definitely see the pictures from Burlappcars.com actually being the next Prado/Lexus GX. If you look at the current gen prado side by side with the spy shot they seem to have more in common than with the fourth gen t4r. The character line on the spy shot photo front fender is similar to the fender flare on the Prado and the chrome grilles seem similar as well. One thing that is missing on the spy shot vs. the Prado is the side blinker (in the fender) but I guess that could be incorporated in the mirror. I feel like I'm trying to guess a Christmas present with the wrapping paper still on!

Toyota Canada rep responded to my email that there is a 2010 4Runner coming out later this year but said they can't give me any more detail than that.

Here's what she said:
"Please be advised that the 2010 4Runner will be released in Canada later this year. Traditionally, information is available closer to the launch date, which has not yet been announced. You may wish to request that the Sales department at the Toyota dealership of your choice contact you with any information concerning the 2010 4Runners specifications the moment it becomes available."

At least I know regardless that there is a 2010 4Runner. My original question I asked was whether Toyota will bring back the manual transmission on the 2010 4Runner or not. Hoping they do, otherwise, I'll continue my search for a low km 5spd 1999-2000 4Runner.

Toyota could squeak out another year of the 4th gen sold as a 2010 it's whether we are getting a 5th gen or will we have to wait til late spring of '10 and see a 2011 5th gen itineration of the 4Runner.
