2010 T4R to debut at Chicago/NY auto show

Also, there's only room for one body-on-frame SUV from the automaker, so the 4Runner will be re-engineered for the 2010 model year, will debut in either New York or Chicago, and the FJ Cruiser will complete its lifecycle and be dropped in the next few years.

Hmmm... that could mean the LC and Sequoia is going away as well at the end of their life cycles. Obviously, that's a little too early to predict for two SUVs that just made their debuts.

I always believe Toyota's strategy is to have a vehicle in every niche as long as other automakers have a hit and even if they're late to the party. Once that market dies, they pull out and call it a day. IMO, MR2 Spyder was one those vehicles to go up against the Miata and S2000 when roadsters were popular.

But Mazda and Honda still have strong sales of their two seaters but the MR-S was lacking and Toyota needed to revamp teh car to compete but decided to just shelve it again for a while. Toyota doesn't have any affordable sporty fun to drive coupes and haven't for a little while. The Scion tC is closest thing Toyota has had in a while or maybe the Matrix but both are kinda weak.

Chicago auto show is now on and still no 5th gen. I guess the rumor could be true that there is no 5th gen coming soon. I wonder if the 4cyl rumor for 2010 model for the 4th gen is the only update that 4runner will get for now.

I'm not really dissapointed. I'm actually happy that there is no 5th gen yet. I get to look at my t4r not looking too old

That's what I was thinking, but since the new LC is SO new, it will be around for a while longer. The Sequoia may go the way of the Ford Excursion, though. People who can afford the LC can afford the gas, Sequoias have a base price that is a little more than half that of the LC (still expensive, I know), and people may be inclined to get something else because of gas.

Honestly though, I believe that since it references the FJ that it may be about the size segment only. Toyota currently has 6 SUV's, 2 in each size segment, so they could drop a few if they had to. Just please keep the 4Runner and LC FOREVER!!!

Im with you on this one. Ill be happy as long as they keep the Land Cruiser and 4Runner forever...so long as they remain true off-road trucks!

Not totally related, but Toyota announced that overseas market Land Cruiser's will rid themselves of the 4.7 V8 and get the all new 4.6 V8 engine. So as you can see, the new motor is making its way into additional vehicles other than the Tundra. I found this article on carscoop.

Thanks for the report. I guess that settles it then - no 5th gen until the '11 model year. The 4th gens reign from '03-'10 will be a record 8th model year for any generation of the T4R. I'm assuming this means that the 2010 GX470 will also be a carryover.
