2012 4Runner Limted Magna Gray with Auto Running Boards

I call BS on not being able to find running boards in the northeast. I ordered my 2012 mag gray in jan and took delivery in feb. I went to a ton of dealerships. My problem was the reverse. I wanted everything BUT the boards. Every dealer tried to push them on me since there maybe 5 or 6 up and down the east coast. Finally I found a great dealership near my house who helped me order.

I would keep looking. I can't imagine things changed that much in 2 months.

Btw, wife and I don't want running boards in CT because if the snow and ice here in CT (though not a problem this year) and also, they tend to get pants muddy in any sort of bad weather. They are sweet tho.

I think it is not the regular running board but the automatic running that is motorized was in question.

I know. They all tried to push it on me... "oh, it will be so cool!" "We've never seen them before" "its great for resale" "wouldn't you rather have it sooner?" etc...

Like I said, cool option, just not for me. The point was that I dont think there should be any problem finding a dealer who has them on a truck, or finding a dealer who is willing to do a swap/order to get you what you want.

Oh Ok. That is understandable. And you are right I agree that they should be able to network and find it but hell that is too much work just sell you want you don't want is easier sometimes lol. My sales manager actually showed me what was available in the region and what was inbound and not assigned. Luckily there was one coming exactly with what I wanted.

Exactly what ended up happening to me. That's how it should always be...

Not to take over the board, but is it possible to place mud guards on a T4R with auto running boards. I have a 2012 with autos and they go close to the wheel well. Anyone have them?

It works. GotMo and I did it to his. There are Allen bolts underneath to slide the board forward and aft on the brackets.

I did not even think about that. I will move them backwards a small amount and place mudguards on the truck.

Worth the wait

Took 4 months to get the Auto Boards (KG) and JBL (NV) but had to get it from another region. Depending on the dealers allocation these two combined may not be available but it was worth the wait.

The boards are solid, quiet and very functional for my needs. I had these on my lifted truck and in icy conditions I had no malfunctions - even with snow/ice packed around the motor assy. For me I like the clean stealth look, the width and how far the platforms extend for wife and kids. It also safes the interior and the added bonus is the "wow" factor when they come down :naughty:

For those who may do some serious off-roading I can see the disadvantage plus they’re costly

Also, I also spoke to an AMP (aftermarket power steps)engineer who’s said they have no plans to produce these due to a lack of demand.

I guess I got really lucky, then. When I went to the dealership to look for a new ride, I had no intentions of buying a 4Runner with auto-running boards. I just wanted a Limited 4X4 with Nav and no third-row seat.

However, the only one they had in stock happened to have auto-running boards (but otherwise fit the bill); after seeing them in action, I decided to go for it.

I had mixed feelings about the automatic running boards, but really had no choice; this was the standard config ordered for 2012 Limiteds by Servco in Hawaii.

After using them for a couple of weeks, I'm pleased I got them. I think they are a little lower and stick out a little further when deployed than the fixed running boards.

Truck Liner

So I am thinking of getting my auto running boards and the piece of plastic of the rear bumper sprayed with bed liner to add a little more traction to it. Plus I need to prevent my dogs from cutting up the plastic piece on the back. Anyone done this or thought about doing it.

I should be telling you thanks. I got my mudflaps which according to Toyota could not fix on the 4runner w. running boards (non specific). I installed the rear flaps and almost gave up on the front without thoroughly investigating the running boards config then I remembered your post and got it done. So thanks.
