2012 Electrical problems

I have a 2012 SR5 with no after market mods. I am have some glitches where every now and again the trip odo, the avg mph while reset and the clock will reset. Then the alarm will go off for no reason. A Couple of times, I was not able to use the remote to lock or unlock the doors. Has anyone else had any issues?

I would check if battery terminals are connected tight and then I would go straight to a dealer with the issue, it's definetely not normal, maybe bad electrical connection somewhere.

What alarm?

Does it possibly have an aftermarket alarm installed by the dealer?

Sounds to me like something is draining the battery overnight, and the run-down protection is activating- shutting off the power.

Any interior lights left on?

Anything plugged in that could drain the battery? I don't see how, since the factory 12v outlets only work with the ignition on...

Just a thought.

Electrical problems

No lights left on....the problems happen while I am driving (for the most part), with the exception of the alarm going off.

Mine doesn't have a factory alarm except for the panic button on the key fob.That's why I bought aftermarket.
How do you set your alarm?

well if antman and harper7 can't figure it out you better go to the dealer.

Check all ECU fuses are secure and that is really all you can do yourself. Best bet is to take it to the dealer.

Looking at the wiring diagrams it could be something with the Combination Meter Assembly (LCD, gauges, idiot lights and more) which is tied into the main body ecu and the door multiplex ecu (causing alarm problems).

That's my stab at it. Keep us posted.

Also, after these problems do you have to re-initialize your windows and moon roof? That may give us a hint as to if you're losing 12v main power intermittently or if its something else.

I have not experienced any window or moonroof issues, but then again, I have not tried to open or close them when this happens. I will check it out next time. Thanks for the help!

The system sounds the alarm and flashes the lights when forced
entry is detected.

Triggering of the alarm
The alarm is triggered in the following situations:

A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using the entry function, wireless remote control or mechanical key with the alarm being set. (The doors will lock again automatically.)

The hood is opened with the alarm being set.

I also have a 2012 SR5 with Entune and have none of the problems you mentioned. It's most likely an intermittent electrical issue. Bring it in to the dealer as others have mentioned- it's probably a short of some sort.

I have this added OEM "security system" also, I would bet your terminals are not making good contact.

When I get home I can take a picture of it, it's also on my vehical sticker.

Granted your not from the gulf area, but here is a 2012 electrical system recall.

Do you have a remote starter?

Toyota 4Runner, Sienna Recall Blamed On Remote Starters

Either way... go to dealer.

No remote starter.......The dealership said they cannot fix it without replicating the problem and it is intermittent. I have a call into Toyota and am waiting to hear back from them. I do appreciate everyone's help on this and will keep you all posted on what I find out.

Maybe try using your other key fob to eliminate that as your problem.That is the ONLY thing that sets off the alarm that I know of. I went last night and tried to see if something else would set it off to no avail.

Your the first I've ever heard of the problem.
Did the dealer even check to see if it set off a DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code) that was stored in the computer?
