2012 t4r?

An ecoboost F-150 is looking more and more appealing these days!

A few years back when the new tundras came out my brother had to buy one for work reasons (works with dealerships). Before I deployed I needed a ride for 2 weeks and that was what I got. It was a 5.7 crew cab limited, everything. Very nice to drive and hands down the best full size I have ever driven. That said, if I had to give up my tacoma for a full size I would give the ecoboost a fair chance to win me over.
 
Did you see the link I posted? No way toyota goes with a v8, they are (wisely) going to implement direct ingection and turbo chargers. I would bet a lot on a DI twin turbo similar to fords ecoboost found in the new f150. Having a v8 4runner would impact sequia sales and toyota is smarter than that.

I would not mind that at all. I was hoping TRD would produce a supercharger for the 4Runner. Based on the current line of engines I would take the V8 over the V6 any day. I was under the impression that Toyota was discontinuing the Sequioa.

Didn't know that but given the recent rise in crossover popularity and the fact that huge suv's were just a fad that has come and gone, I'd say thats a smart move. And thanks

And just as fast as the Sequoia rumors come out Toyota denies them and they are still here for 2011......at least one more year. Toyota Sequoia Discontinued? Nope.

I hope they do put a DI turbo on the 4.0L v6's!

So aside from the engine aspects, here are some things I would really like them to reinstate in Canada on the 2012 when I am likely to trade my 2004.

Autocrank start (unlikely I suspect, but I love it on the 4th Gen)
Rear window remote control down (without having to have smart key system)
Single zone automatic climate control on SR5 upgrade package
Ditch the 3rd row seat included in the upgrade package to pay for some of this
Include mud guards across the range - heck this isn't a Honda you know!
Put back the roof rails - again it seems Toyota took a leaf out of Honda's book here.

exactly, it isnt a honda. So why do you need mud gaurds? Fling that ****!
 
So you say they wont do anything while ford, audi/VW, hyundai, mazda, subaru, and even kia have FI models out? You dont have to be a fan of ford to acknowledge that their ecoboost engines in the edge, tarus, and f150 are impressive.

Sorry to bust your bubble but the ecoboost V6 engine is a DOG!

Good to know, I have faith in toyota to do things the right way.

Toyota has learned from the Lexus IS that DI alone is a problem. The IS250 has only DI and has serious carbon problems (as ALL other DI engines). The IS 350 has two separate FI systems (direct AND port) and no carbon problems. It turns out with DI, the fuel doesn't flow across the back of the intake valves to clean them. I would NEVER buy a DI engine until they get this sorted out.

Mast antenna serves a good purpose. AM radio reception is far superior with mast v. windshield antenna. I rarely listen to AM but on late night trips it is pleasant to listen to distant stations. It was a minor part of the reason we bought the vehicle.
2010 4WD Limited: the optional-use full 4WD is a real plus and the fit and finish of the vehicles cannot be improved.
V-6 appears adequate, great variability on MPG with today's gasoline. Mileage goes down with 90/10 mix as one would expect, Consumer Reports says the same.
 
I know this topic has been discussed before. Does anyone know if TRD is going to develope a supercharger for the new 4.0 in the 4Runner?
 
Why do you say that? All the reviews I've read of it have been very complimentary, and its torque curve is very impressive.

Look at the performance numbers of the vehicles it is in and compare it to non-TT engines. On paper it looks very good. For a twin turbo it is poor. This is what BMW did with the 335. Again, with all the added complexity, it is just not worth it, especially when a NA engine can make the same power.

I can assure you the F-150 EcoBoost is no dog: the smaller engine pulls stronger at lower revs than the V8, feels just as smooth, sounds just as quiet. The turbocharging means the V6 doesn’t need to be spun for high rpm to maximize its acceleration. The NA 6.2L and the EcoBoost 3.5 are both rated for 5,136 kilograms of towing capacity, somewhat more than the 4,545 kg for which the 5.0L V8 is rated.

The only thing dogged is the perception that a V8 is better, especially in the truck belts of north america where the "no replacement for displacement" mantra hangs around like the last party guest. But with more exposure, just like diesel, more and more will realize the benefits of turbocharging.

NA engines may be able to produce the same horsepower but they often do not get the torque delivery until much later in the rpm range and will require more fuel to achieve the same results. The benefits of a turbo are threefold: more torque early on when you need it most, better fuel economy, proven, off-the-shelf technology.

Turbocharging has been used successfully since the 1920s and with enormous success in various sports cars, most notably the 911 Turbo. It's vastly less complex and much cheaper than any hybrid technology. Is it worth it? There may not be a choice: Toyota, like everyone else, has to meet a fuel economy average and it has to happen by the next model change — models that are in the development stage right now. And the corporate average fuel economy (cafe) is going to rise sharply.

I disagree. Look at the numbers for the Ford F150. The EcoBoost V6 matches or exceeds the performance numbers of the 5.0 V8, and does so with better fuel economy.

A NA engine of the same size can't make the same torque and have the same flat torque curve. The problems with the 335 are due to the high pressure fuel pump needed by the direct injection system.
 
Well some people may choose to keep a NA engine, but if I have a chance to get over 420lb-ft at 2500rpm than I will take it.

The IS350 (yes, I know you own one) is a DI engine. It just happens to have secondary port injectors that serve the purpose of cleaning the intake valves. The primary injection system is DI on your car. I'm quite sure we'll see most, if not all other manufacturers employ a similar set-up.
 
When I say a dog (a little over exaggerated), I'm referring to the engine when it is in a car. The SHO runs 13.7-8 with all that HP. Look at some of the comparisons with NA powered cars with less hp. Yes on paper it looks real impressive. It is better suited for a truck and gets decent mileage. I would not touch any vehicle (including Toyota) with just direct injection.
