2013 SR5 level and 33" tires - will it work?

I think I have read every thread and post on lifts and leveling for 5th Gen 4Runners on this site.. :) A lot of good information... I just bought a 2013 SR5 4wd. I put BlackRhino 22" Peak wheels and 285/45/22 tires on it. Now I am ready to lift it a bit and go with larger tires. From what I have read on this site, I think the Bilstein 5100's on the front are the best route to go with a 1.5 spring spacer in the rear. I want to run 285/50/22 Terra Grapplers (a 33" overall diameter). the other thing that I noticed, is that many of you post the lift and size of tires but not the off-set of the wheels you are using. the Peaks that I have are a +20 offset. I am sure that makes a difference as well. I look forward to suggestions and comments.

That's because offset changes according to the width of the wheel. BS is a more reliable input to how a wheel fits. How wide are your new wheels?.....If your wheels have a +20 offset and are probably 9" wide that would give you a 5.75" bs which is 1.25" inward more then stock wheel which has a 4.5" backspace.Backspace on these 5ths should not be over 5.25" max with recommended less then 5".

You may get away without serious rubbing with 5.75" backspace with a double deuce wheel since the UCA is inside that radius while the suspension is neutral. Flexing it ,as in extending or compressing will rub the tire and probably the wheel and could be dangerous as rubbing at speed on the UCA can and will blow out the tire. You would be the first I know of to lift with 22" wheels ,especially with that backspace for a Chevy . I thought big wheel lovers lower them.....at least that's the way they roll in the Gas Monkey Garage!lol

Here's a offset chart to show you how it works with bs and wheel width and why offset changes and is basically useless info other then finding your bs which they could have just given in the first place.

yeah, i am trying to go with a little different look than everyone else. 22's on all-terrains with a lift on a 4Runner. :)
i appreciate the info on the back space v off-set.
so it is sell the 22's and get a lower off-set wheel or maybe throw a 1" spacer on the wheels?
If it is not rubbing now, would it make a difference after the Bilsteins are installed? I would rather not run the risk of a rubbing and a blow out...
How about overall ability to run a 33" tire with the Bilsteins? or to run that size of tire do I need the 3/2 REadylift?
thanks again!

Go look on the inside top of your front wheels in relation to where the UCA and ball joint are now . I tried on wheels that had 5.25" bs with a lift and could barely get a piece of paper between them.

Figure your wheel and wider tire moving downward the amount you lift it and also inward and back some and the fact that the wheels are going to move up and down as the front end moves up and down while driving around curves and bumps and such and you'll envision the can of worms.

Yes ,spacers will move it outward and recommend Spidertrax which are 1.25" because they are top quality and they are really more like adapters then spacers as they have their own lugs and are held to the existing lugs with their own nuts. But then you'll probably have to do some liner relocating/trimming to relieve rubbing being a 9" wide wheel, if that's what it is.

22" wheels.... poor brakes (and 4runner but we wont go there) That is a lot of wheel for our little brakes. do you know what the weight of each of those is?

I'm guessing your now planning on taking it off-road any?

I am not for sure of the weight of each wheel, but they are rotary forged. :)
I just double checked and they are 9.5 wide and +25 offset which according to the chart is an even worse set up..... I'd did check and there was room for 4 credit cards thick between the tire and uca. No rubbing on the tire was evident.

Would it be recommended to put the spidertrax spacers on a 9.00" wheel with a 5.50" bs?

Yes.....You can do your own checking by jacking up the truck with the front wheels hanging and check the clearance laterally between the wheel and the UCA. If the wheel is big enough like his 22 then the UCA might be inside the wheel radius. I was checking with a 17" wheel and 5.25 backspace and it was too close for me so I had Spidertrax. Also check that it doesn't rub on the sway bar when the wheels are turned the whole way. A tire rubbing on plastic like the liner is one thing but rubbing against anything steel is a recipe for disaster IMO.

Thanks for that. I ordered my wheels with the wrong backspace, primarily out of ignorance, and experiencing some rubbing.

Checking clearance ASAP.

Harper7, I appreciate all of your input. Definitely have helped a ton. Assuming that I had the correct offset for my wheels, should there be any trouble running a 33" tire with the Bilstein 5100's? I would assume some trimming or moving of the fender liner.

Lot's of people running 33's with the adjustable Billy's with a little inner fender liner massaging! You would more then likely have caster(alignment)problems if you went to the max height on them, which I think it's 2.75" without getting aftermarket UCA's to get the caster back. You should be ok with the 1.75 " setting but you'll probably notice a lighter steering feel with the minimum caster.

Well, I have to get some wood blocks... My jack that I've always used for my little coupe doesn't even get close to getting the tires off the ground on my runner. Boo.

Clearance check postponed but I did come across some spacers from Motorsport Tech. They have different sized spacers compared to the Spidertrax which is only 1.25"

http://www.motorsport-tech.com/special/truck/toyota_s

I'm considering the 1" BORA spacer. Maybe even the .75" spacer.

33"

Im running a -12 Offset Wheel with 295/70R17... no rubbing issues but did have to give the fenders some TLC to fit. including a BMC, well worth it though. Tires are Toyo Open Country M/T. One more thing curious as to why 22s? Your Tires are going to be Lo Pro almost.

here is the update:
i know many on here are against 22" wheels, but it is a personal preference. I like them. I don't off-road. I just like the 4Runner and wanted to make it mine.

Window Tint
ToyTech 2.5" front and 1.5" rear
SpiderTrax 1.25" spacers front and rear
22" Black Rhino Peak forged wheels
285/50/22 Nitto Terra Grapplers (33")

Tylerdh, have any rubbing issues with your setup? How does the spacer suspension ride compaired to stock?

hrod79 , I had to remove the little front "mud flaps" and then push the fender liner forward. then trim a little bit of the plastic that is inside the wheel well. very minor trimming was needed, and you can't tell it was trimmed at all unless you are looking inside the wheel well. I don't notice very much ride difference, so I asked my lovely wife.. :) she said it does ride a little more "truck-like" now but not a big difference.
