My bet is a repair instead of replace would mean they'd deny warranty on any future electrical problems and blame it on that. If it was out of warranty I'd definitely go the repair route.

Yup, its way too new to be patching wires.

Boulder. I have green grass on my lawn now.

Lots of squirrels, rabbits, prarie dogs, and raccoons around here. Also mountain lions, bears, coyotes, foxes, and wait for it .. wolves.

Fyi, afaik, there have been three (3) wolf sightings in Colorado in the last eight years, none of them being mating pairs from Idaho.

I saw (2) together in Nederland off West Magnolia in the winter of 2012, and reported them to Colorado Division of Wildlife. Ive also heard of other sightings in and around the Ned area. So unless I'm included on those (3) sightings, we have more than previously thought.

The coyotes eat so well they get big down here, the bears, fox, and elk come through as well with a couple mountain lion sightings, I guess if you are close enough to the foothills it's the same. I have snow in my front and back yard though. Makes me never want to leave my truck out of the garage at night after seeing your damage.

How to solve the problem?

hello Apenso I Just wanted to consult you as you solved the problem of the lights on the panel, because my 4runner has the same fault and I've been several times to put the computer workshop will eliminate the lights on the panel but after two days reappears.
I would like to know the exact solution and see if I finish troubleshooting

Adopt a cat from the local shelter. For a few bucks of cat food and litter box, and occasional brushing his coat, ours keeps the chipmunks away from the house and cars very well. Win-win.

Sorry to bump this again but mine did this exact thing.

2015 4Runner SR5: bought used 47k miles 3 weeks ago, certified pre-owned.

Driving back from Canada to Ohio, I had been driving hundreds of miles, cruising at 75mph it suddenly threw these exact lights and limp mode symptoms. I do not have any nests or obvious damage wires and it was 11:30pm (Saturday) in the middle of no-where, so I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and it has been fine since.

Had it to the dealer yesterday, they said they weren't sure but mentioned it could be the secondary air injection thing (said I cleared the code by resetting the battery). They said to drive it and if it happens again try to have it towed there with the problem...

Has anyone successfully had this issue and fixed it easily or bypassed that system on 5th gens?

What is the go to Toyota code reader I have seen mentioned on this forum so I can prove it myself if needed.

I would have made a new thread but don't have enough posts.

The varmints must love the Toyota wires and plastic. Seven years later same lights on the dash lit up and under the hood of my 2019 4Runner I found the same (mostly) wires chewed and nest location, too. This guy was fast, only parked for two days. Even left a trail of pine needles from the bushes to engine area. Hadn't heard of limp mode but that's exactly the word I was looking for! Had it towed and insurance said it's covered.

Well it just happened to me this time on my 2018. Got in the 4Runner last night and noticed the Check Engine light and Track Off light were on, truck drove very sluggish but was drivable, figured I'll check it out in the morning. Well, this morning, much to my surprise there in the corner, just like you, a nice pile of leaves and sticks along with chewed up wiring. This all took place in less than 24 hours because I washed the car Tuesday afternoon, I clean under the hood, and Wednesday around 6pm the symptoms showed up. Put in a claim with the insurance company and now waiting to hear back from them. Did I mention that I hate squirrels!

Looks like a I need just the light blue harness, mostly contained to the engine bay with a little bit of work inside the vehicle behind the kick panels and instrument cluster. Toyota p/n 82111-35Q10 MSRP $2,653.43.

Insurance is going to cover it, but I hope there's no long term issues.

Really? I had no clue that insurance covers this type of issue! Seriously? I’m glad they are covering it just shocked that they do, never heard of this. Looks like the critter had plenty of time to make a nest.
