Your right. It is a crumple zone and it crumpled like it was designed to do. I should have noted that in my post as well. I was actually coming from more of a work related angle. After using a few of these paper thin F150s at work, I've noticed that the beds flex, dent, crack, tear super easy. All of the newer trucks have crumple zones front and rear. It just seems the F150 crumples easier than the rest.
 
I am just glad that everyone is okay! I would say totaled since the front looks racked to the right. I hope you get to go pick out a new one after all of this is over.

Wasn't it the small overlap frontal impact that the 2014 4runner did marginal on for the IIHS? To me, this looks close to a real life crash in that range and it appears the truck did pretty good! I can't even imagine what a smaller or less sturdy car would look like.

F150 and F350 is a lot of mass.

Glad to hear you're all good. My bet is on totalled btw.

The overlap frontal impact test you refer to is done at a much high speed than the ops accident.
 
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I picked up the accident report and will soon start the claim process. Never having been in a major accident, I am amazed how something new hurts every day!!

I did go by and look at the 4R again and I have to think it is totaled also. The frame appears twisted with the back passenger side higher than the other side (the tire is flat on front left but it is raised more than just by that).

I ended up with a nasty bruise on my left shoulder. I sat back in the truck today and figured out my shoulder struck the pillar between the front and back doors.

Those tests are done at 40 mph into a stationary object. I didn't see the OP post his speed here, but you'd also have to consider the F150 was probably moving as well.
 
We were going about 45....I know this because I had looked at the speed limit on the navigation system because it changed to 45 about 100 yards before that and I was checking to see if it changed on the screen..it did. That is a well known area for officers to run radar and I remember thinking I has to do the limit.
 
Hate to say it man, but I'd lawyer up ASAP. If you're in pain, have medical bills, and I'm assuming you want 100% of the value of the truck--you'll probably need a lawyer to get what's rightfully yours.
 
Wow that's a pretty impressive AA scene. Glad your ok, 4runners totaled would be my guess also. Good luck, heal fast.

I have a friend that was in an accident years ago. He admitted fault too, his insurance company fought with him throughout the entire process. In the end they lost, but they also dropped him the second they could.
 
Man, I am really sorry about your loss but really glad you weren't hurt more seriously. Best of luck to you on getting everything resolved and back into a new truck.
 
I hope that is totalled and you get every penny you need to buy a new one. I would never want a vehicle repaired after that damage.
 
Shoot, makes my little fender bender last week seem silly. Glad you're safe, and i would echo the advice with an attorney - you're "number two" in line being that you weren't the primary victim of the accident. The other person's insurance company is gonna do whatever they can to not have to replace your truck. Good luck - I hope justice serves you well.
 
First of all - glad to hear you were not seriously hurt. If you haven't already done so, I would remove all personal items from your truck asap before somebody else does. Also your insurance co should take care of you first (regardless of your place in the accident) and then subrogate the claim with the other companies. Also I would not sign off on any settlements until you are sure you are ok.
 
Talked to an attorney who advised to try and settle the claim without one first. He is afraid that after his portion is taken there won't be enough left to cover the new vehicle. At least he was honest in that...

They are inspecting the vehicle tomorrow.
 
Glad you were able to walk away from that! I was in an accident a year ago, sitting in the backseat of my gf's car and got t-boned on my side, no airbags deployed, smoked my face on the headrest. I didn't read all the comments, but go to the hospital now if you didn't go right after the accident, I think you have 72 hours to see a physician before the opposing insurance won't cover it or something.
