This would definitely make the 4Runner more competitive. We never take the 4R on road trips because it gets worse mpg than it does in town. 5 gears and slightly low on power, 5 to 15mph over the speed limit- I'm working its arse off and it becomes uncomfortable and tiring.

BSM, PC, LDW, rear cross traffic will probably be on the LE. Pre collision & lane depart proably wont happen imo.
plat package probably wont happen, there isn't enough variety to justify the difference on the LE unlike the tundra or sequoia's.
they will replace the center screen to a 7", not a 8" and it will be across the board on the 4runners. that is the current standard with Toyota's coming out on refresh/gen updates.
the center dash will stay 4" but be color for all models as it is currently with new model refresh/gen updates.
look at the new camry and corolla's to get an idea.
edit: forgot to add, I hope Toyota doesn't get the bug to do the spindle look alike grille from lexus. all the new gen refresh/next gen's on the sedans look like a hybrid of the spindle grille. look at the new camry and corolla's.

opcorn:While that use to be a valid point, now Ford Explorers, Jeep Grand Cherokees and Kia Optimas have heated steering wheels.
The 4Runner really is an amazing vehicle and unique but it's lacking so many features that are now mainstream, it's disappointing.

so much LOL's at everyone asking for a V8. Wow those forum never changes. Then when gas get back to 4$/gallon average in the US everyone complains about how a truck is hard on gas.
I would wish for better efficiency with at least the same amount of power, radar cruise control and ventilated seats. And that they get rid of the ugly front of the new trail/SR5.

When my hands are cold, I wear gloves. *There is a reason* for all of the knobs and buttons in the 4Runner being over-sized. For the same price of a real frame, you can add all kinds of novelty electrical goodies that will eventually not work, and are very expensive to fix. People seem reluctant to accept the fact that BOF SUV's built in Japan, are very expensive to produce. Sadly, the 4Runner is one of a handful of vehicles, sold in America, that is actually built to last. We simply cant have a vehicle that costs as much as a Runner, has a real frame and comes with all of the same tech as a CUV while returning 28 mpg city with a towing capacity of 10K. Our money buys us exactly what the 4Runner currently is, and if you don't believe me, just look at the prices of a GX460 or a Land Cruiser Prado.

Your argument assumes that a V8/6+ Speed transmission is going to get worse mpg than the current powertrain. My guess is that Toyota could actually get improved mpg's out of this combo... I think with the departure of the GX460 the V8 should be brought back as an optional powertrain.
Also mainstream: unibody.
Think long and hard if you want the 4R to become more mainstream......
This pretty much sums it up... While Toyota could pick up the pace a little in some areas (6+ speed transmission), I do not want them trying to keep up with the other manufacturers in race to bring things to market (See Jeep Grand Cherokee.) I would rather they take the time they need to keep putting out products that I can count on.
