255/85R16 on 8" wide rim

Anyone running 255/85R16's on 16x8 wheels?

I have a set of wheels and I'm worried the 8" width kind of defeats the purpose of the pizza cutter profile. Also wondering if it flattens out the sidewalls too much.

I'm curious if they would work though because I'd like to run the taller/narrower tires for a bunch of reasons...

Any input and/or picture is appreciated.

You will be fine running 255s on an 8" rim. I know a couple guys that have run this setup on their tacomas. I'll find some pictures and post them up

Thanks for the photo. I'm definitely going this route. I've been on the fence between the 255/85 and 285/75 for a while now.

I've decided that the 255s aren't nearly as narrow looking as everyone makes them sound as long as they have a mildly agressive tread to them. The KM2's tread width in that tire is the same width as the tire itself (10") while other brands are down around 8.9 or 9"

I think that they'll look sweet, and keeping them closer to under my un-flared wheelwhell while going up .3" in overall height vs. most 285s doesn't hurt either...

Bumping to see if there are anymore out there of their 3rd gen with 255/85r16. I'm really considering these since this is my daily driver.

Just put 255/80r17 on 17x8 -10 wheels. Looks good to me. Same size as the ones you mention just in a 17.

I'm running Spidertrax 1.25's on all 4. Transmission hates it pretty bad, but for some reason I'm still getting the same mileage as before the lift. I've been looking for an e-locked rear end ever since I lifted it so I can gear it down to 4.88's

I can't really tell much if any difference in power but I haven't had them very long yet.

I never drove this without the tires and lift. My friend drove it home for me when it was stock and i tore it down immediately. I'm just comparing it to my wifes. Hers has 265's, 4.30's, and half the miles.

I am a huge fan of tall skinny. My last 2 Jeep Wranglers, mainly last one was a TJ Rubicon. I ran 33x10.5x15 and loved it. For that reason of Daily driver. Also for the sake of research tall skinny can help for more traction everywhere. Better in most snow situations. And I just liked them. I wheeled more places than I imagined and more rock climbs expected right next to wider 35-40's even.

I would have done on my truck now but I did not want E load range, many run with no issues but I felt they will make a harsher ride. I like my stuff setup soft and flexy as possible. Also when you get started on tire weight and rotational mass / unsprung weight. For a daily driver a lighter load will ride smoother, and less weight plays a big role for MPG and power up hills all that. I love the look of the pictures above though! For the slight width difference 265's were the right answer to me!

Whatever you do, POST PICS WHEN ITS DONE. As for original question that size on 8" wide will look great and work fine even aired down. Givin I had 15's I use to go to 12-15 psi never and issue on serious rocks
