285 70 R17 BFG KO2s With Load Range “C”?

Hmmmm - this is both great news and bad news for me! I'm adding either a 3" Toytec Ultimate of OME BP-51 lift to my 4Runner next month and has my mind set on 265/70 KO2s. I wanted to go with a 275; however, the E load range was off putting for a daily driver.

Now, if only there were a way to calibrate the speedometer I would probably go to a 285. :ballchain:
 
As I understand it..on 5th Gens 285's actually bring the speedo to accuracy as it's a little slow with factory tires. That's at least what I have read in these forums repeatedly. Someone feel free to correct me if that's misinformation.

Mine was just a little bit slow with the factory tires. It's definitely a tad faster than the reading with 285. They really aren't all that much different in size. My guess is a 275 would be just about perfect. Either way it's close enough that if you drive reasonably it's never a problem. There are some electronic devices that do allow you to recalibrate but they're kind of expensive and with a 4-channel ABS feeding into the computer it is somewhat of a complicated process to install them. It's just not worth it to me. I usually don't drive so fast that it matters anyway.

Yeah it seems they do have others sizes in D, but good lord, yeah sell the first born. For those prices MT’s all the way. Roughly ~$350 a whack :wow2: :faint:

That is interesting it did not even clue in that the 34 is roughly the same size just slightly bigger. Interesting as in theory there is all a D, C and E rating all right around the same size. BFG is at least listening to their buyers and presenting different/multiple options.

I would be VERY interested to compare between my 275 E rated and a C/D rated equivalent to see if there is any noticeable change in ride.

The 34 will probably be my next tire. If/when I get them I’ll report back

I just mounted them on my 2018 TRD PRO. Purchased from Tire Rack, delivered next day. Incredibly smooth and quiet. I think more so than the 285/70r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers in C load that I had on my 17 Tacoma. So I'm obviously very happy with them so far!
 
I got to spend a few days with the new JL Wrangler Rubicon (I write car reviews). I too was surprised at the size and load of its tires. The short Jeep rode and drove well for a short BoF vehicle with stick axles, better than the JK, especially in emergency maneuvers.

I parked the Rubi next to my 4Runner that's on 265 KO2s. The tires looked shocking similar in overall size. When I see 285s on 4Runners they seem huge. I went to the BFG website but they had no details on the actual size of the 285-C.

Here are some crappy nighttime pics of the two tires. It was like -2F that day I didn't feel like standing there snapping pics or measuring tires. I figured I'd find the info on the internet, but here we are...

Do you have pictures of these mounted on your 4Runner? Can you measure the height of the tire now that it's installed?

Also, is your pro stock height? And is there any rubbing with these?
