3.4 HP Question

Okay I have a 2000 4Runner with a 3.4 rated at 183 HP

Why is a 1995 3.4 (in a toyota T100) rated at 190 HP?

Just to clarify.... I work at a Toyota Dealership and it is still an unknown!

When the 3rd Gen. 4Runner was about to be released, I read an article wherein a Toyota engineer was quoted as saying that the slight reduction in power for the 5VZFE installed in the 4Runner, was due to a more restrictive, (Ie: quieter) muffler.

They wanted their passenger carrying SUV, to be a bit quieter than their pick-ups.

That's good to know for sure.

Side by side my 4runner is quieter than my friends Taco. Really noticiable when listening from the street as they pull away.

Different exhaust routing can explain the small HP diff.

Bad omen..... I should have not questioned it....... Today my tailpipe broke at the muffler!

I guess I now have a choice to a relieved exhaust or a stock one. I really don't like the thought of more noise but I do like more power.

I guess tomorrow I will hit the parts dept and look up the muffler differences between the T100 and 4Runner.

V6's sound terible loud but if a Tacoma muffler will give you 8hp, that's not much more noise.

I like Dynomax Super Turbos for V6's since they are one of the quietest aftermarket mufflers. If you go aftermarket get the largest case you can.

I'm looking for exhaust options as well. I don't like the cat back choices out there for these vehicles. All seem too loud. I don't think Dynomax makes a kit so I'm thinking of piecing something together.

I decide to go with OEM Toyota.

I looked at the T100 muffler and it has a round shaped body as compared to the oval 4runner.

I'm not out to re-invent the wheel.... just get it right.

It should be here tomorrow and installed.
