3 flash turn signal?

I didn't even realize this was a thing until earlier this year. I don't miss it. I hate it when someone barely begins signaling and then starts moving into the next lane. Isn't it illegal?

I'm more irritated that the signal clicker is so quiet, but I'll live with it. I'll say that I finally can understand why other drivers drive around with their turn signals on. They apparently don't hear the clicker. I've only ever driven vehicles with loud clickers.

Have been in contact with another company out of Germany, PEKATRONIC. They claim that their module will work with all Toyota's and Lexus'. I double checked with them if it will work with 5th gen 4Runners and they have confirmed both times that it will. I am looking to place an order with them but with this whole Corona virus thing they are not shipping to Canada at the moment. Per their email to me, this is completely plug and play. No need to splice/cut into existing wires. Part number you are looking for is 3292. Here is a link for anyone who wants to try it out.

Personally I think this is useless. I had a 2007 Chrysler 300 that had this feature and I didn't even know it had it for about 2 years after I bought it when I accidentally activated it. It stops way too soon for you to make a safe lane change. I never used it once in the 12 years I owned that car. To each his/her own I suppose.

Please report back if/when you do get one! I do miss this after having driven Volkswagens for decades that do this.

Kinda pricey IMO, but spend that trump check how you want.

bringing this from the dead because i would like to have this feature.. all my other cars have this - 1 tap and it blinks 3 times.. throws me off when i am driving the 4runner. Any udpates?

Not sure if this will work with your 4Runner, but I see where it is listed for newer model Taco's.

SmartTap - Smarter Flasher
DD4015-flasher-3004

Diode Dynamics LED Flasher compatible with Toyota 4Runner (non-DTRL) 2003-2009, CF18 SmartTap
Amazon.com

*compatible with any vehicle using a CF18 (LM449) Flasher*
(non-DTRL) "Drive Time Running Lights"

Could be just spinning my wheels, but hopefully points you in the right direction.

Good Luck!

Just adding to this to see if this is possible on our 4Runners. This mod was done to a GX470 so I think something similar can be done with our 4Runners? I would be willing to try but I am not good at reading wiring diagrams and such so I wouldn't know what pins to modify like what they did in this vid;

Do any of you electrical gurus know if the mod in vid would be even possible on our 4Runners?

Just purchased the module from Kahtec after reviewing the install wiring diagram. The install seemed simple enough so I thought I'd give it a try. Will report back after I install it.

These just arrived! I will install this weekend and report back. Wiring diagram looks simple enough. I will tap the turn signal wires from under the steering column. Hopefully they work as advertised...

emmantik Did it work out well? ...

5TH Gen uses on-board computer to control that, therefore no easy solution. 4TH Gen is Relay and easy to upgrade to 3 or how ever many blinks you want with just replacement of that relay with smart relay.

Finally got a chance to install the harness/mount and relay and I'm glad to say it works like charm! I have the tap/turn function along with multiple hazard strobe options as well.

Isn't it ironic? Most of us love the 4R for it's old "schoolness" and what those that don't understand it (or us) claim to be "outdated and obsolete" and yet we want this feature, of all things, AND we have problems finding current tech to get around it. LOL It really is like my kids not knowing how to operate a rotary phone, a cassette deck or VCR.

I’ve enjoyed the multi-flash on many of my vehicles over the past several years, so I did miss it when the 4R landed.

I believe Diode Dynamics bought the Tap-Turn from Autowindow. Scott at Autowindow invented the Tap-Turn lplug & play flasher module years ago, for Toyota & Subaru vehicles. He gutted cheap China-made flasher housings, then installed his own quality electrical components. I had one in a 2011 Outback and it was great.

It’s impressive to see someone working on a solution to update our vehicles, so I applaud the effort. In the meantime, I move the level the old school way.
