So i have a set of spare head's and i am dropping them off to get tested but, they both look like the same head. I pulled them off my old motor that had a knock. Do the head's look the same to the naked eye or can you tell a difference?

I remember them looking alot alike also. I think one has the hole for the Dist and the other does not? Not sure.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like that part comes off. They might be the same.

I just put my heads back on over the summer, I seem to recall the same concerns. I "think" there were a couple of small differences, been a while
and I don't recall having any big issues.

Try this:
-The housing for the distributor may only fit on one head.
-The hole where the distributor goes thru the head may only be
-large enough for the distributor to fit on one head.
-The back of the passenger head should have a small threaded bolt hole
-as a support for the bypass tube that goes under the intake.
-There may also be a corresponding mark on the block that matches the
-head. I think one side had a matching "P" stamped into the block and head.

I will look once i get the head's back, they came off a running motor and i marked the heads from driver to passenger side.

yea the only difference in the two is that the drivers side head has the cap toward the front to mount the distributor in and the cam has the gear for the distributor other than that they are identical

Iirc, one head is machined differently for the tensioner.
If your cam caps didn't stay with their respective head, you're in bad shape.
