So I got a few extra bags but technically I could’ve gotten it to work with one bag of each type. You need 1x of the plastic sleeves (cut in half) for the top and then 6x plastic flat washers. Dude 3d printers are the future!! Haha

Indeed. As fewer and fewer 3rd gen parts are available for us, we'll need 3D printers! I need to make a trip to THD later this week, so I'll check-out those little parts drawers for those. Thanks.

No joke man, once you get it I’m sure you will find a ton of more uses for it too. That was probably the best 3$ ive spent on my 4runner so far haha.. tailgate works great now, the bushings that were in there were completely shot though.

Right after I did this I decided to start installing my winch, of course the light bar was barely in the way so I had to rearrange the mount just a bit. Turned out good though. Still need to get the synthetic line wrapped in..
Had to clearance the mount for the control box on the winch a little..
Also had to clearance the grill just a tiny bit.

Looking really good! It's really coming-togther so nicely...
Did you have to remove the bumper or loosen it up a little or remove the grille in order to install the winch?
I seem to recall reading that we need to apply 1,000 lbs of tension when spooling the line. What method do you plan to use?

Thanks man! Just had to remove the grille.. like 15 times lol.. kept trimming a little then needing to trim a different spot, but in the end it fit together nicely.
Yea I read that too, not sure I’ll probably find a big tree somewhere near my house and throw my tree strap around it.

Great to hear that only the grille needed removal. I ordered a bag of clips last year, and thankfully only broke a couple so far...
I hope that's the same with my bumper/winch too, just needing grille removal. If so I'll install the bumper sooner as opposed to later...
A tree sounds good, maybe up an incline if possible.

If it’s completely open on the top of the bumper then you should be able to, if it’s closed in at all you will probably have to remove the bumper. I’ll probably just do it on a flat section but have my wife slightly press the brakes while doing it and that should be good enough. I watch some of this guys videos Ronny Dahl on YouTube, really informative on recovery gear.

Yup, it's open, but i imagine it will be a very tight fit. I'll check with Roy at Savage. Good idea on braking, or maybe have it in gear, not sure though. Will check-out those YouTube vids to help educate myself...

Kept pretty busy this weekend. Almost done with the rock lights, trimmed my LCA skids a bit more, made a light for my camping table, and installed a couple more switches in the dash.
Front rock lights

Rear rock lights (mounts to the support bar on rear bumper)

Notched the skids quite a bit they are still really close..

Learn something every day! Was not aware of the term "rock lights", but makes sense. Funny, on one of my FJ40s, I had actually cut holes through the floor for improved drainage and one for a piss hole. However, I now remember shining a flashlight through holes a couple times to better see the what was holding me/us up, or getting hit...

To clarify, the FJ40s are long gone. About 25 years I have not had a 4x4. Much re-learning...

e-brake in neutral and you can do it by yourself. You will need to get some number of wraps on the drum with minimal force on the line first.

Installed a factory driver side grab handle and replaced all the JIS screws in my grab handles with Allen head screws + lock washers.. Also been putting in work on all the wiring on my truck.. I wanted to do all the wiring at one time but I still need a few more lights lol.. we’ll see I might have to do two rounds of wiring..
Oh yea I did some sic cooler mods too! Lol.. figured since the top was hollow a bit of spray foam insulation might help keep ice for an extra day or two.. going to use these solid grommets to cover the holes. Didn’t want to spend a bunch on a yeti when in reality I want an ARB fridge/freezer so I’m using this temporarily..

Been collecting parts for the trans cooler/radiator/timing belt/trans filter etc.. now I just need to get around to doing it. I’ll probably wait to do it after I move at the end of February, I’ll have a decently larger garage.
More cooler mods lol.. Filled the pvc tubes with a salt water solution that will stay colder longer than regular water. Then I’ll stack ice packs on top of those. Also put pieces of foam board into the cup holders because I could see light through the lid of the cooler..
