Jeep's certified pre-owned warranty is not like what you get from Lexus or BMW...so, NO, CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY FROM JEEP IS NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD.

Here ya go: Certified Five Star Pre-Owned Vehicles

Wow, 3 months!! Yeah, just as good as factory warranty you say??? :redbrick:

Hahahahahaha...did you even read your own link? Sorry, but it's a 7-year/100K mile powertrain warranty. That's the stuff that matters. Let me simplify it for you---if you're worried about breaking down on the road, it's the POWERTRAIN warranty that you need. So yes, you get a great warranty when you buy a certified pre-owned Jeep.

And no, i would NOT get a GX over a 5th gen. Why? You can't get 4runner's capability in the GX. Service costs are overpriced for the Lexus. I don't like luxury car...from a safety perspective (i am paranoid).

Wow, I use your graph against you and all you can do is come up with new and unrelated reasons why the Lexus isn't a good idea? Wait, but you said yourself that reliability (not cost/safety/service) was the reason to choose a 4Runner over a Grand Cherokee. But when I point out that the Lexus is rated well ahead of the Toyota, you backpedal like Lance Armstrong. Good job, Thai. LOL

Well, to DocMT's credit, he would be dumping the JGC after 3 years/36k miles, whichever comes first...at a huge loss...but i am sure that he thinks that it is a good financial decision. Then, he can go out and buy another JGC, but a used one this time because the "certified used" warranty is EVEN better than the factory warranty (per him)!! Finally, he would be force to visit the junkyard every year to pick up parts that are falling off his used JGC...and life goes on.

No, I would be leasing it for 3 years. At the end of the 3 year lease period, I would decide whether or not I wanted to keep it.

Keep in mind you're talking to someone who buys vehicles that he likes, regardless of their reliability ratings. I recently purchased (not leased) a 2011 Audi A5 in a cash deal. So don't worry too much about my financial decisions, because I can afford to do whatever I choose to do when it comes to purchasing or leasing new vehicles.

And for the record, my Audi doesn't exactly get a stellar reliability rating, but I purchased it anyway because I like it. So getting a Jeep wouldn't be a problem for me either. Not everyone lives their life without taking any chances. I guess a guy who drives a Prius just wouldn't understand that. LOL

^Since getting my 5th gen I have been amazed at how so many people (mostly on this site AND mostly 4th gen owners) are going out of there way to talk trash and hate on the 5th gen. I really dont get it. Just jealousy I guess? why else would someone go out of there way to be so negative about something that doesn't affect them?

It's definitely not jealousy. That's silly...why would anyone be jealous? If I wanted a 5th gen, I could go out tomorrow and get one.

I think it's more about owners lashing out against Toyota for screwing up the 5th gen 4Runner. Not only did they take a major step back by de-contenting it, but they also messed up the styling in a big way.

Let me be on the record saying that I'm a 4th gen owner, but I truly like the 5th gens a lot too!

Let me simplify it for you---if you're worried about breaking down on the road, it's the POWERTRAIN warranty that you need. So yes, you get a great warranty when you buy a certified pre-owned Jeep.

Remind me, what does a new jeep get? What is the powertrain warranty on a new jeep??

But, lets not joke around and act dumb, when you talk CERTIFIED used car warranty, you talk about the bumper-to-bumper. When the AC goes out, does the powertrain warranty cover that? Not all headaches come from the powertrain. You know that...so, lets cut the dumb stuff out.

For reference, see Lexus certified warranty...THAT is a real warranty that i care about.

When did i backpedal? Dude, get over it. I would gladly take a lexus GX470 (with KDSS) over a 4th gen 4runner...even with my paranoia! But, i would take a 5th gen over any GX and 4th gen...for reasons already stated.

And yes, as far apart the 4runner is from the JGC in terms of reliability AND durability, i would take the 4runner over JGC simply on those terms. Clear? Or are you just acting ignorant again? Now, if they were closer, then other factors come into play. But, as it stands, the JGC does not have the off-road capability that i look for nor the reliability/durability.

Now, you should see someone about your denial issues....

And these companies have you to thank for buying crappy stuff...and they really like it when these same folks don't learn their lesson and still come into their showroom bent over for more action!

Nah, you're right...i learned from my previous experience and move on to avoid doing the same stupid thing.

Wow. Just wow.

Reliability is not about length of warranty. Remember any warranty is nothing more than a sales tool. Reliability is NOT feeling good about the fact that WHEN you break down you will get it fixed for free. Reliability is knowing that your vehicle is good enough to not even need a long term warranty. Resale value and retention is tha key.

wow what a thread. c'mon guys, everybody has his/her own reasons to buy a vehicle they bought. T4R is pretty much perfect for one person, but it might be a complete "no go" for another person. Do you really think you can convnice each other that your reasons are the only right ones? : )

There is more to an SUV other then off-roading. No one buys a brand new vehicle for 100% off-roading (except maybe a Rubicon/H1 type vehicle). As far as the capabilities of a GX, I would put the GX up against the 5th gen 4Runner in ANY performance comparison. The only advantage the T4R has is in the Trail’s off-road features (rear locker and clearances). The GX is equaled too or even better then the Limited or SR5 off-roading. Just because the GX is classified as a luxury SUV don’t think for one minute it is a slouch on the trail. And once off the trail there is simply no comparison. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the 4Runner but you can not compare it to the GX, apples and oranges! The drive train alone is light-years away from each other, not to mention the ride quality.

Certified used doesn't mean bumper to bumper. Maybe in your world, but not everyone follows the rules in your own little world, Thai. First you talk about breaking down and now it's about the A/C breaking? LOL, which is it? If you are worried about getting home, then it's the POWERTRAIN you need to worry about. If you're worried about being warm, then yes, the A/C system is important. Either way, this is a stupid debate because odds are high that the vehicle will be fine for many years without any issues whatsoever, whether you're talking about a Toyota or a Jeep. Like i said (and you ignored) earlier, most vehicles are just fine these days. The majority of owners are happy and problematic vehicles are far and few between.

When did i backpedal? Dude, get over it. I would gladly take a lexus GX470 (with KDSS) over a 4th gen 4runner...even with my paranoia! But, i would take a 5th gen over any GX and 4th gen...for reasons already stated.

All you do is backpedal and deflect. You're known for that, Thai. You call me ignorant, but you aren't capable of having a debate without doing your best to bend it whichever way you can in your favor. That's pathetic, but it's all everyone here expects from you.

Now tell me why you would take a 5th gen over a GX, when you first stated RELIABILITY as your major motivation. And your own graph clearly shows Lexus as being superior to Toyota in reliability. Don't be a hypocrite.

Yeah, my Audi is "crappy stuff". LOL....get a clue and get back to me on that.

Maybe you need to look up the definition of the word "reliability".

Warranties are more than sales tools. They are basically pre-sold insurance that covers the cost of repairs that arise within a certain time period and/or mileage period.

Even the best cars in the world are sold with a warranty. Know why? Because customers expect/demand it.

Class dismissed.

The funny thing is that Thai would be agreeing with you if it didn't dig him deeper into the hole that he already dug for himself. See, Thai is an opportunist and whenever he starts a debate, it is easy to watch him backpedal.

New car sales of 1962 Ford Pintos down 100% in 2011...see how easily you can make statistics ridiculous?

Yes, sales are down 7%, but did you know that importation of them is down 60%? Understanding why something is mathematically different is much better than just taking statistics for what they say. Remember, 90% of all statistics can be made to say what you want them to say 50% of the time.

p.s., I'm not sure what the import rate is right now, I was just making a point.

Very good point. +Rep:thumb3:

Koz, did you miss that i used "I"?? I am not talking about anyone else except me. And yes, i would pick 4runner Trail (nor SR5, not limited) over GX.

And my preference for non-luxury vehicles is my personal bias...as i have already stated.

As for the powertrain, i am OK with the V6...no issue for ME. You being a power-hungry person, i understand your preference. But, for me, i am OK with the weaker powertrain as long as i get the off-road goodies. Different emphasis and different priorities.

Really?!! Boy, you not only miss the boat, you miss the freaking dock! For someone who talks so much, you sure don't get it!

Dense little kid, aren't you???? Ok...i think that everyone here can see who is backpedaling and deflecting...but believe all you want dude. You seemingly can't comprehend what is written...please, RE-read what i wrote before you type more idiotic comments!!

And no, i will never buy an Audi nor a VW...nor a Land Rover. So, yeah, personally, i don't think highly of them. Clear?

Have a good day.

Simply put, a warranty is nothing more than a simple contract for the seller to honor and fix material and workmanship defects for an agreed upon length of time. What I meant by sales concessions is, after a historical analysis of defects and repairs for the product, the cost of said parts and repairs are factored in to the cost of the new product. The seller can then A) Add the full cost of future warranty claims up front or B) Can make a "deal" with the customer and only charge a portion of the future warranty cost in the selling price. Hence "sales concession." In my real world, I deal with these decisions every day. The future cost of repairs is built into the selling price of the product.

Sounds like this is an argumnet baesd on perspective. Some people buy cars with styling and features as priority, others put reliability/ longevity at the top. I personally go for the later with my trucks (and probably most guys on the forum). The JGC is a nice package if you dont mind the occasional trip to the shop. And Doc has a nice car to drive while his jeep is being worked on. To each their own.
