Great question and a stupid response: it's a habit. I came out of a GLK350 and my other car also requires 93 octane. I have been putting 93 into my cars for the past 5 years out of requirement. There is no scientific reasoning on my part.
I also read the thread on octane with some technical conversations that surpassed my comprehension but I also figured there is no harm in putting a higher octane. This too is just a guess on my part.
I do. Several of us, unlike you, try to help out people if we can. Seafoam eh? Must have missed that spec in the owner's manual but you know better I'm sure.

That spec sheet has been out months ago before the trdpro was even released.
After seeing this spec sheet, you'd think Toyota would of at least done a mild brake upgrade for the higher MSRP and proposed advantages/capabilities of the Pro models? Maybe throw on the TRD pads and/or slotted/cross-drilled rotors or something... geez

On a side note: I see so many guys in pick-ups running around Southern California w/big tires & lift kits but are still running stock brakes doing 80+ down the freeway... makes me nervous to even be near those knuckleheads!
Have you panic braked in your 4Runner yet? If not make sure you go to a deserted piece of highway before you do it. Get it up to about 65 and hit the brakes like a deer ran out in front of you. You will stop! QUICKLY! Everyone should do this because the 4Runner is a bit different than other vehicles because it feels like the hand of God is pushing against you the first time you do it.
Yes, the OEM brakes are pretty good, but the Pro is running a larger tire + higher center of gravity than all the rest of the models (as you well know)... I just think Toyota could at least dip their little hands into the parts bin and at the very least, throw on those TRD pads they so easily push in the accessory department.
Curious, does the Pro have the braided brake lines like the Trail?
Also, not to derail this... has anyone used those TRD pads and noticed much of an improvement?

Interesting info. If it truly adds another 30hp, im all about paying a few more bucks per fill up. I wonder why toyota claims 270hp ? I know it doesn't say with 87 octane fuel, but one would think that is what they used in their testing since that is what they recommend. Changing timing can make a big difference on HP numbers, but I wouldn't have thought 30hpSome modern ECUs can now compensate power (increase/retard timing) based on octane.
