4runner TRD Pro

I honestly don't know EasyAndy. Here is a link to a post I did awhile back on horsepower, barometric pressure and altitude here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/133786-cold-air-horsepower.html that explains a bit and might be applicable to your situation.

If you could repost your numbers and pertinent information I would be glad to try to help.

Thanks for the response. I would be happy to provide you all my data if you want it, but it doesn't really bother me if I know the exact answer or not. I would hate for you to do a bunch of calculations unless you really wanted to know for yourself. If you do want it I will give you an excel export of all the data points. All I know is that I love driving the 4runner and a 1-2 mpg change does not bother me at all. I just thought it was interesting that I did not have that much of a difference as I was sure there would have been one.

I am curious about one thing tho, which is somewhat related. When I use up a tank driving in the mountains I get better gas mileage then driving on highways in the front range which is relatively flat. This seems completely backwards to me. Do you or anyone else know why the truck would get better MPG during a trip up and back down from the mountains then driving the same distance on flat ground? I'm specifically talking about I-70 in the summer and I'm driving about the same speed as I would drive in town on the flat highway.

Sorry for the unrelated questions on the TRD Pro page, the discussion just started here.

Thanks! Today we took it up Schnebly Hill for an easy first dirt trip. Other spots we like are mostly in west Sedona like Greasy Spoon, Van Deren Cabin and Outlaw trail. Sedona is supposed to get very cold and some precipitation in the next few days so I might get to see how it drives in a little snow.

Excellent! How did the TRDP suspension do on Schnebly Hill? I went down into Sedona on Schnebly about 2 months ago with our FJ Cruiser and it was crazy rough. The FJ has a decent suspension as well and I was aired down to 18psi.

I can't wait to run Broken Arrow in my TRDP and will be looking for the first chance I can get to head up to Sedona.

If it snows in Sedona over the next few days I may run up there to mess around in the snow and take some photos. Sedona under snow is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

I live in Cottonwood, and go to Sedona frequently. Last time, I took my 2002 T4R Sport with Sonoran Steel 1.2 kit on broken arrow. Had the whole place to myself. I'll post pics. Maybe we can get together?

Looks like this dude having some transmission issues with his Pro.

That's me. I am having transmission troubles. In Toyota's defense, the FST (field service technician) said he has never heard of this with this particular transmission, at this mileage and there has not been one documented case of this in all of the Toyota's database. Same transmission they put in the 08-15 FJ Cruiser, Tacoma, and 4Runner.

For whom who thinks I am abusing my vehicle: I revved it up to prove that the transmission was not engaging in the video and that I didn't have my foot on the brake. I'm a mechanic as well. And yes, it did scare the crap out of me. In previous times acting up, I would have to shut it off to get it to go into gear no matter what I did.

The main clutch was slipping when it would act up, causing it to act like it was in neutral. It finally did it at the dealer today in the hands of the shop foreman. New (remanned) transmission was ordered today and will be installed on Friday here in UT where I bought it. Driving a 14' Tacoma 4 Door Sport for the time being. Not even close to as nice as my TRDP.

Called Toyota Customer service and they absolutely will not put a new transmission in it. It has less than 5,000 miles. Kinda bummed about that.

You can see my video if you want, it was dark and cold.

You should call the corporate headquarters and escalate this issue. Putting a refurbished trans in a brand new T4R TRDP would be insane to me as well...

hope this gets settled without much issue for you!

Customer care said there is no further escalation of the issue to go. Transmission is ordered. Nothing I can do. Talked to several dealerships and they all said they have never seen Toyota put in a new part except on an unsold unit. All remanufactured.

I explained to them that this is a brand new vehicle, and we should be putting in a brand new transmission. No cigar.

Great idea! Maybe we can get TRDProGirl to come along as well and have a TRDP meet up. I am currently waiting for my TRDP to show up. The last info I received indicated that I will have it in 2 weeks or less. However, we also have a modified FJ Cruiser for wheeling and camping purposes that I can use anytime as well.

My wife and I once wheeled Broken Arrow after it had snowed about 3 inches and we also had the entire trail to ourselves. One set of tracks in and one set out. That is honestly one of my most memorable times off-road.

Sonoran Steel makes some great stuff. I know Steve Schaefer well and have wheeled with him before as well.

Tough being the one.
I wouldn't worry a bit about it being a reman unit though as everything that will need replaced will be replaced. What will be the warranty on the reman unit? That will be the place you can negotiate.

Sucks man!

Where are you getting the service done? If you are willing to change things up this late in the game I would highly recommend Camelback Toyota in Phx. I personally know the Director of Service and can put you in touch with him. He is a great guys and has owned many modified Toyota 4x4s. Even better yet is the fact that many of the Service Managers and techs all have lifted/modified Land Cruisers, 4Runners, and FJ Cruisers. The best thing about this shop is the face that they will never tell you something like "you lifted your 4x4 and that is why the radio went out". They even offer great discounts on service to those who are Copper State Cruiser members.

I agree. Toyota replaced the transmission in my 100 Series Land Cruiser with a reman after the torque converter gave up the ghost and took the transmission with it. I was very happen with the transmission and the service. Toyota did offer a decent warranty on the work and the transmission. I don't remember the exact numbers but I was able to negotiate and was happy in the end. I would try to talk them in to the 36K mile warranty that covers everything else new in the TRDP.

Very good sir ! Been ordering mine from motorsporttech n sparks , he has different sizes . Did 1.50 on my 4th gen rears & 1.25 fronts just an option for future !

Awesome I'll remember that! I was originally just gonna do front to have that desert Prorunner look, but I couldn't stick to that due to my OCD.

SpiderTrax just showed up!
Will be putting them on tomorrow on my Troop'd TRDP.

If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could post before and after shots straight from the front showing exactly how much the stance is changed?
I'd really appreciate it as I'm on the fence on ordering some for my TRDP and am also deciding between the 1.25s and the 2"ers. Thank you in advance!

Sure thing! I'll get that for you and everyone else that wants to see the difference.
