TRD Pro Order Cancelled?

No dealer can special order a TRD Pro, each dealership gets an allocation of them depending on their sales. Putting money down won't do anything but put you first in line for one if the dealership gets an allocation. Found this out by talking to every dealership in the southeast region.

I'd say "cancelled" is dealer-speak for "not accepted". Difference is it makes it sound like "Toyota's fault" vs "we're dumbasses for even attempting to order one when we should have known better."

Worse, it's 50-50 likely they took his order and deposit (?) with full knowledge, hoping to swing him to something in stock. Some dealers have few scruples.

My old man is a broker... And has worked in many dealerships over this years. Philsey's comments above are 100% accurate. Especially in super competitive markets like the NW. Dealers often solicit deposits even if they don't have an allocation or inbound TRDP. They are betting on a few options...

1. They get an allocation in the next allotment >> This is a long shot, especially since not all dealers qualify nor do they get a guarantee on when and/or if they will even get one... Unless they are the top dealer in the territory. Odds will be higher there. Even then, there will be a battle on the sales floor on who gets it. Most likely it'll go to a "friend" of the dealership if the market is dry.

2. They will make a run at a dealer trade. >> LOL!!! About zero dealers will trade a TRDP. This type of inventory is essentially click bait. I've even seen dealers continue to advertise TRDPs that have already delivered to keep calls coming in [see point 3 below.]

3. Once the dealer gets you in, takes a deposit, and can't deliver, they will try to move you (and your deposit) into something they have on the lot. I've even seen them try to pull a "non-refundable" on TRDP deposits. This is horse s*it. Walk, with your money, if they can't deliver.

I ran the same rodeo up here in the NW. Was a PITA. Ended up using a broker. Made it so much easier.

I know when I was looking for my new TE, there happened to be a Cement Pro show up at my dealer and my sales lady tried to get me into it. It had arrived and buyer backed out of sale. I was on the lot for one day and it sold. So if you're dead set on a TRDPro that's a way to find one. It's a long shot tho

When I was looking for a very specific Offroad Premium package I came across two TRD Pro Cement vehicles. TRD Pro was easier to find then what I wanted. Have your friend check every dealer website in the state. Some dealer websites lag actual inventory by a day or two. Also check the big cities in the state next to yours. It doesn't take that long to check every dealer website. Also check big cities that have cheap airflight from your location. Buy the vehicle and drive it back.

Just ordered a Cement Gray 4Runner. Sold my 15 TRD Pro 4Runner and bought a TRD Pro Tundra last year. I never tow anything and it's too big (Tundra) for me driving it back to work and home for 85% of the time. But the horsepower is nice to have.

The dealer I bought my original 4Runner from said it might not be until mid-summer, but I'm in no hurry. They don't charge any mark up on the price is the reason I deal with them.

Cancelled, no but forgot about, yes. I laid down some money with a dealer in October for a TRDP tundra and found out last month the order slipped their minds. They forgot about the check as well but at least they found it. Needless to say, I took my check back and really I'm over the whole TRDP thing.

Kinda funny, I have to agree with you.

There is a TRDP sitting on the lot right now at my local dealer, and has been for weeks...

I guess I wasn't the only one that said f-that when I saw a 7k over MSRP Toyota tax for a Pro.

I am just glad I took a little time to step back and take a look at what I really wanted. Personally at this point I would just get a trail and spend the saved money to buy even better suspension.

But now that one of my family members has a new Limited I gotta admit it really grew on me. Aside for a missing locker, I could get used to all the luxury. Locker I can add down the road if I need it. AWD is a nice feature too as you still get a Torsen center like the 4th Gen guys.

It would be interesting to know why "Toyota cancelled his order." Ask your friend the reason they gave.

Said he was told by his dealer that all of the Pros for their area have been delivered and sold for the year.

Is there an easy place to check out who is the top dealer for a given area? I am sure most every dealer would tell a consumer it is them if asked!

Just look at the size of the dealer. Easy to spot who is going big on inventory and sales.

Just as an FYI. My old man is going to search tomorrow in the SW. I'll let you know if he finds anything inbound.

Something I wish I did. Anybody want to buy my TRDP suspension? :redbrick:

Such BS

Okay. This makes no sense. I pulled mine from a small Toyota dealership in Thomaston Maine. No wait, just happened to see it come off the truck. That same dealership sold one before mine and had two come in after mine. They didn't last long but they were on the lot for a week or more.

Thomaston has a population around 5,000 year round residents. They got at least 4. Maybe more. Shepards Toyota in Thomaston Maine if you are interested.

If anyone in the Bay Area or willing to travel is looking for a Cement Pro.. Downtown Oakland Toyota has one coming in soon that is not reserved yet. Give them a call and ask for Henry.. I bought mine from him. Good guy and there was no markup on mine. Tell him Mike sent you!

I'd appreciate it. I am looking for a plain jane Cement pro with no extra options or accessories.

Thank you, I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Congrats man.....I remember you back when you had the 2015! Looking forward to future pics of the new one!

"For the year"? ... this year? ... 2017 right? ... and it's FEBRUARY right? ... So Toyota won't build any more Pros for the next 10 months, even tho they are in high demand?

"Their area" .... Hahahaha. That means their dealership, aka he don't get none.

This dealer is a master spin doctor, aka big fat liar. I'd run away, fast.
