I am quite disappointed with the way the 4Runner drives in 2HI when there is a few inches on the road. I find that I am spinning the tires more often then not, but I know it is attributed to my empty trunk. I am however extremely impressed with the standard traction control when the tires do slip, or when I begin to slide. I always feel safe and in-control (assisted of course) when they kick in.

Totally agree, even with Nokian's the back end is very skittish and can slide out while accelerating on an icy patch, can be quite scary at 60mph. Now I leave in 4WD when driving to and from the mountains esp in the dark. Is straight highway all the way so not too concerned about the lack of centre diff after doing some research on this forum.
