4th gen- For all who've done the FJ swap....

It will settle nicely just like mine in a few more days. If you think it rides nice now, wait til you install the rears...WOW! Best 2 mods listed on this forum are this and the EGO TS Bluetooth install.

I hope it does come down some. I stopped at 11:00AM yesterday. It was 105 degrees! The back can wait until next Saturday. I can't wait to see how it drives with all four corners! I'll check out that Bluetooth install.

Final Measurements

Did the no spring compressor replacement last Saturday and the rear today.

I've read a bunch of stuff on the diff-drops lately and am beginning to think that they don't do much. I never even thought about it with my FJ setup. I just installed the kit when I installed my Toytec Ultimate. It only lowers the front mounting points so you're rotating the front downward and probably only lowering the diff where the shafts go in about 1/2" max. I'm actually considering taking it out... still researching, but I did have to put thin spacers in the front of my Man-a-Fre skid plate and grind the end of the driver side diff mount to get it to fit.

When I spoke with toytec yesterday they seemed pretty convinced that only after 3" a diff drop was needed.. So I wonder what the longer term consequences of a 2-2.5" lift with no diff drop would be? X4runner has a howling diff now, is that due to the angles? Or maybe something else?

The front CVs are at an upward angle at factory height. Adding a 2-3" lift only reverses the angle so there is not really any added stress. Most agree the diff drop is not worth it.

Anyone have red and white markings on their rear springs? Havent seen them in any of the pics...just wondering if this is correct.

I just did FJ springs and 5100's set to 0.85". My measurements are below (from ground -> center of wheel well arch, and not scientific so there could be some fudge in these numbers)

2006 4x4 Limited v8

BEFORE:
Driver Front: 33"
Passenger Front: 33.25"
Driver Rear: 35"
Passenger Rear: 35.25"

AFTER:
Driver Front: 34.125"
Passenger Front: 34.25"
Driver Rear: 35.75"
Passenger Rear: 36"

...I went to 265/65R18 tires from the stock 265/60R18, and gained about another 1" all around. Overall, I'm very happy with the stance and while the rake isn't totally gone, it's less. That's what I was going for.

FJ TT shocks/springs
Readylift leveling kit

Back looks a little bit higher, I'm hoping it'll settle.

Hello, I was hoping you 4th geners could help me.
I am looking to try out some FJC coils on the rear of my 3rd gen.
My main concern is that you guys are seeing a huge variance in lift amounts 0-1.25 inches.
I would like to make sure I am not buying the "wrong" FJC coils.
Did the OEM FJC coils vary over the years?!
From what I know about 3rd gens and fj80's it isn't uncommon for toyota to change the springs for different production years.
Thanks for you help!

I completed the FJ\5100 swap on my 2003 Sport last week. I went with the FJ\5100 setup based on the reviews and feedback I read here as my 4Runner had over 225K miles on the original XREAS suspension and it was worn out.

My configuration;
- 2010 FJ Coils w\12K miles on them (looked brand new)
- 5100's from Ebay (.85 Setting)
- Michelin LTX A/T 2's (265/70/17)

The truck sits noticeably higher which I like but the ride quality seems to be slightly more aggressive (bouncy). The OEM XREAS setup was definitely smoother. I think the handling was also better with the XREAS (before mine wore out). The XREAS system did a good job of linking each corner of the suspension to provide great handling and ride. The truck just seemed more in tune and predictable with the XREAS. The FJ/5100 combination is good but it doesn't provide the same driving experience as the XREAS in my opinion.

I'm not disappointed and I still recommend the FJ\5100 setup as a replacement option because it's far more economical and provides a better value in comparison to installing new XREAS system or other more expensive C/O's. Especially if you have a truck like mine w\over 225K miles and don't want to spend too much. I was able to do the setup for $400 including the cost of the FJ coils from Craigslist.

I replaced the tires, brake pads, rotors, 1 caliper, front sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, and 2 CV axles for under $1600. I feel like it's a new truck again.

I take it back

I've been running around for a few weeks on my swap and the ride has dramatically improved. It's not as stiff and handling is just as good or maybe better than XREAS now that the components have worn in some.

What tires did you put on it? I'm about to be in the market for some and am weighing my options..

That's great to hear, thanks for the update. I'll try to get the spreadsheet updated within the next week or so.

BFGoodrich Rugged Terrains. So far, quite happy.

Have anymore shots with those tires on it? Been debating between the rugged terrains, at ko's and revo 2's. Rugged terrains being the newest and least tested/reviewed but a tire I like..
