4th gen- For all who've done the FJ swap....

Also might want to include if the suspension components came from a 05-09 or a 2010-11, I think the 2 components are different in some ways or atleast OME makes a different suspension for each years.

Thanks for this write up, it helped with figuring out where to set my 5100's. Just finished the swap this last weekend and LOVE the way it rides. Only way I can describe it is stock like when new, but better. Less roll when cornering, not overly firm or harsh. Very sweet. Here's mine:

2003 Limited 4WD V8
FJ coils front and rear (the new 4x4 part #'s from MOOG)
Bilstein 5100's front and rear, front set to 2.50" setting
Cooper AT3's in 265/70/R17
4 1/4" gained in front, 2 1/2" gained in rear

Before measured 33" in the front and 35" in the rear, after measured 37 1/4" front, 37 1/2" rear.

I know these numbers seem high, but I measured before and after on a level surface with a full tank of gas and I swear they are the real numbers! I wanted to level the rake and knew that with a V8 and an already 2" higher rear that I would at least set the 5100's at 1.75" and after installing the rear components and getting a good lift just from that I opted for the 2.50" setting. VERY happy I did that. I love that it's "lifted" without really "lifting" it. Just new springs and shocks. Cool. It's almost completely level, about 1/4" higher still in the rear.

First pic is after the lift but before the new tires, still with my craptastic Bridgestone 265/65/R17's, last two are with new tires and looking good:

Morphious, yeah, had problems with my first pic upload! Fixed it. Thanks for the reply, love how it rides now. Ready for summer!

Looks awesome rugger. Maybe it's the angle but the front still looks high. Did you put spacers in the rear?

Bromeo, thanks. This project was a long time in the making and I am very pleased with the outcome and the hard won satisfaction that I did it myself (plus my wife looks at me as if I am more attractive and manly now, but I can assure you that I am certainly not). My rig is ready for summer now!

No, I did not put spacers in the rear and I think it is the angle, my driveway is slightly canted down towards the street. Looking at it in person it looks completely level and measuring it on level ground the rear is still about 1/4" high. The new Moog FJ 4x4 springs I bought for the project gave it more of a lift than I anticipated in both the rear and front. I got over 4 inches of lift in the front and 2 1/2 in the rear! That's about as high or higher than anyone's swap on this thread.

Tony, I agree that after a couple of weeks it might settle a little and perhaps it would have been more prudent to go with the 1.75" setting because I certainly don't want a "Baja Racer" front high rake to the rear look, but after 7 days the measurements are still the same. We'll see!

I may have missed it but has anyone used the front and rear struts and shocks from anything newer than an 11 fj. I am going to be picking up a set from a 14 fj off road edition. Will these work if so what modification was used to make them fit and or items such as bushings replaced?

Has there been any sagging yet? I'm wanting to do a similar lift, but I'd like a 3/2 end result. Do you remember which Moogs you went with?
Thanks

So what is the best ride quality and cheapest option to a 2" x 2" lift in order to run ~32s
I am runing 32s. My setup rides awesome. However, i didnt get 2" in the rear. You can read my details earlier in this thread. I dont remember the exact measurements.

1971 M-code Mach 1

Im running 255/75/17 (32")

So what is the best ride quality and cheapest option to a 2" x 2" lift in order to run ~32s

take off 05-15 Tacoma TRD offroad coilover/rear shock swap and 5th gen rear coils in back bilstein.

After about 6 months of offroading and aggressive driving on logging roads, my FJ springs have settled at least another 0.5". Enough to noticeably affect my camber. Guess I'll have to do another alignment... Or pick up some OME 885s.

2005 V6 4wd
Replaced fronts with FJ Trail Shocks and Coils.
Added Daystar 1" budget boost - KT09117BK

I checked everything over at about 100 miles and I noticed the rubber isolator that goes between the top of the coil and the upper strut mount has smooshed and pushed out on the drivers side.
Any thoughts? Common? Bad? Pay closer attention to it next time?

Am wanting to do this FJ swap, but the used springs are hard to come by. I like the stock look of my 08 Limited, but want to get rid of the "boaty" feel. I think the Fj springs and Blistein 5100's are a nice option with minimal lift change. At least that is what I am hearing from you guys...

Anyone gotta line on some used springs? Otherwise, Gonna have to pay out the yin yang for new ones.

Thanks!
