Are you looking for stock or aftermarket? When I got mine they were all missing so I was glad to get stock from a junkyard, but if you want aftermarket there's a few companies that make them, with RCI being one of the more popular.

The Feds are looking at including 4th Gen 4Runners in a $3.4 billion settlement for similarly rusted Tacomas, Tundras, and Sequoias. Here's a link to the news article, and here's a link to details on the Settlement.
Up this point, the 4Runners have not been included, but NHTSA is reviewing complaints to see if the problem on the other models is also pervasive enough in 4Runners to include 4Runners in the settlement.
I just filed a complaint on NHTSA.gov's site regarding my rusting 4Runner, including commentary from the dealer that refuses to do repairs on my 4Runner due to the pervasive frame and exhaust rust.
No details on the timeframe on the fed's investigation regarding 4Runners.

Yes, but unfortunately I am not a seasoned expert. I thought it was just surface rust and now have learned an expensive lesson.

Any good welder should be able to do the repair...IF he has enough solid metal left there after he cuts out all the rust, can't weld rust,
hopefully he can find some solid metal and if so he needs to make sure the frame stays straight and supported as he patches it back together

After repairing the holes I recommend a weekend spent underneath with a wire wheel, primer like Corroseal, and chassis paint. Spray and clean everything 1st then wire brush away followrd by a nice coat of paint.
After the paint is cured use something like fluid film to protect your work.

2004 4runner v8
Hi everyone,
sorry to revive an older thread. New here and looking into buying a 4runner. Yesterday I found this 2004 4runner v8 with 122k miles. Can you please look at these frame pics and let me know if you notice anything I should be worried about? The frame looked clean to me (I'm no expert) but it does look like it was painted or treated at one point.
Carfax history is pretty good and looks like the previous owner did a good job with taking it to the dealer for maintenance.
I should mention that the dealer also has 2 other 4runners for sale and they did not seem to be as clean or have the black coating. My guess is that the previous owner did the job.
Any thoughts / inputs is appreciated.

I have an '03 V8 LTD, was under the rear most area just a few hours ago and scraped about a pound of rust off frame , axle housing, various brackets and will wire bush brush another time for painting.
The '04 you're looking at looks pretty good, check bottom of frame below PS front door, this is where the A/C condensate gathered on mine and dripped on floor leaving behind a 10" x 3" long rusted out spot on bottom of frame rail.

Thank you guys for the replies! I will look at that area tomorrow rdruss, I have scheduled a ppi with the Toyota dealer nearby and will have them take a look at that area as well.

Judging by the condition of the lower welds on the rails, overall the frame is in the decent shape. BUT! Given the fact that whatever paint the prev.owner used is flaking off, I'd be really caution and, if possible, poked around with a screwdriver; it's very likely the surface/rust wasn't treated properly before painting, and was rather 'encapsulated'. When done incorrectly, it rapidly accelerates the decay. Pay attention to the inside of rails - some holes are big enough to stick your finger in and feel inside (ugh, sounds a bit wrong
). Also, check the front and especially the rear crossmember behind the bumper.In any case, even if frame is solid, treat it again this summer. And do it right this time.
