4x Innovations Rear Bumper with Swing out PICS?

Very late to the party...
Both have 33's, 1" bl, Sonoran Steel rear body mounts.
Adam was very easy to deal with by phone.

They fit better with my husband's stock flares than my trim, but my mud flaps are just the right width to go perfectly.

The view...only a little taller than the dog crate....

Sorry, it's bright outside...

What difference have you noticed from the Sonoran body mounts? The paint around the bottom of my rear quarters is chipping from the bumper contacting the body and I'm thinking it's more to do with body flex than the bumper flexing.

Another question: I like how low the tire sits for visibility. But at the same time, it looks like the tire will hit the ground pretty easily on steep departures. Thoughts?

I haven't had any issue with steep departures, then again I have 861's in the rear so I have a bit of a rake. I have a 1" BL so no issues with body contacting the bumper.

The SS body mounts made a difference to the point of I can't remember the last time I have heard the body hit the bumper. Well worth it for me.

When moderate wheeling here in MO I have yet to have the tire hit anything on a depart. Bottom of bumper, yes, a little, but not tire.

I just went out and measured. In my case the bottom of the spare is 32" from the ground (so a little less aired down) and 22" beyond the bumper plate.

Most of the time on vacation there's a hitch bike rack on my truck, the base of which sits below the tire by several inches. When the extension is in the lower position (sits a couple of inches below the bumper) it hits steps somewhat often, if they're tall enough. When it's flipped to the higher position it rarely hits during moderate wheeling- again below the tire. If I get a chance to do Fins again I'll have to let you know- but I'm taking the bikes and rack off for that one! :D

Hitch extension in lower position...to give you an idea of what I'm saying

The bikes and rack are in way more harms' way than the tire and I've yet to (knock on wood!) bend a wheel or damage the rack due to a hit. Break a few rubber straps, yeah, but I was a saggy bottom with toasted Billies. This year I am un-saggy with new Tokikos!

I am currently having a hitch rack modified to work better when wheeling....

Thanks for the reply habanero

I'm not brave enough to wheel with my mountain bikes on the my rack. I have a north shore rack where the bikes hang vertically.

My other hesitation about a tire carrier is whether or not the north shore rack would still fit. However for shorter trips, I just put the bikes through the back window with the front wheel hanging out the back, just like how the pickup guys do. After having a 4Runner, I don't think I could own an suv without a retracting back window

It's hard enough with a hanging rack....I don't think the North Shore would work out too good, as nice a rack as it is. Bungees and rubber straps make accidental touches less troubling.
Since a lot of our wheeling is point to point and mountain bikes are always a part of the equation on vacation....there's a lot of cringing sometimes, and verrrrry careful ooching....
The tandem is the exact width of the truck. If the mirrors make it, the bike will. :)

I do have to use a hitch extension- the rack is several inches short of making it to the hitch. The one I use currently allows me to open the swing-arm when in the low position because of the way my Thule Parkway is built.
Again, having a hanging rack custom modified, supposed to be done this weekend. Crossing fingers it works out the way I want.

I can't picture the bikes hanging out the back with the carrier there....

Thanks habanero !!!

I haven't had a chance to measure mine, but so far it looks like there should be plenty of clearance. The only spot I'm still concerned about is the top of the license plate bezel a couple inches over from the lock cylinder for the hatch. Would you be able to measure how much distance there is between the bezel and the tire there? Basically a measurement of the picture right below the caption "Tire... BFG A/T KO2..." I hate to ask so many questions, but would you be able to get that measurment from your husbands 99 since it has the same bezel as mine?

If there isn't enough space there I suppose I could run a spacer, but I'd rather not run a spacer on my swingout...

Thanks so much again, you're a lifesaver!

Unner I can get that measurement when truck and hubby comes home. Will post here and quote you.

It doesn't seem a spacer would be a good thing on a swingout...but that would be best answered by somebody who isn't theorizing.

There isn't any tire until you reach just over 3" past the lock.
I put the straight edge against the widest part of the tire, where it reaches over farthest

Then marked and measured the distance between where that ended up and the lock.

And for good measure I went ahead measured the distance between tire and bezel. As best as I can tell, that's slightly less than 2" at the fattest part of the tire.

If it helps and I have the time I don't mind taking a few photos. Kinda got into over-pic mode via my build thread so I'm used to it. :D

Thanks so much for the extra measurements and pics!

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, I was out of town all weekend and didn't get back until late last night. I just went out and measured though and it looks like it'll clear just fine.

I called Adam and talked to him today, No July 4th sale this year, 3 week turn time currently, and they weren't too keen on my idea of rear quarter panel protection tubing which is fine, it was more of a want than a need and I don't want to have someone do something they don't want to do because I know it won't come out as well as I would like it then.

Now I just need to finish convincing myself to spend this chunk of change on the truck. Good news is I will be pretty much done with the build after this. Just need to get the winch installed and find the rest of the parts for my rear locker swap.

Done? There is no done!

I placed my order with 4x on Tuesday, thanks again, can't wait to get it!

Haha fair enough, done with major purchases like armor and suspension stuffs. No plans to regear or supercharge this one, but there weren't plans to do any of this other stuff either...

I'm sorry but your truck is too heavy now & your wheels are too big. You need to re-gear & Supercharge. :bounce:

Picking mine up from powder coater after work and installing tonight with Sonoran steel body mounts!

Nice!

I just got my replacement bumper yesterday since my original one was bent in a wreck. Its going to go on before I even lift the new runner :) The sonoran body mounts are a must!
