5th Gen Chat Thread

No kids for me, but my wife and I are expecting soon...............a '13 TE T4R, that is!!! I ordered it a month ago and it is sitting at the Port of Portland right now. The dealer claims they are at the mercy of the port and can't pin down an exact date of delivery. This is a true test of patience, let me tell you.

***End rant***

OMG LOL

So I get a hysterical call from my wife just now. She is screaming that our daughter has lice and now she is going to have lice. I rush out to Walgreens and grab three lice treatments and rush home. What do I find????

DIRT

And she is still scratching her head like a heroin addict even though she knows it wasn't lice

Yep, complete control........:peace:

Welcome to my world pal! Make sure you get a boy dog though...

I love my girls with all my heart but some nights, SOME NIGHTS, I just huddle together on the deck with the Beagle Boys- Charlie, Eddie, and Floyd-and we discuss what the hell happened to cause us to lose complete control over the household.

You need that support now!

Funny, when I read "beagle boys" my mind immediately jumped to the bad guys on Ducktales.... (Life is like a hurricane, here in duckberg...Racecars lasers aero-planes, it's - a - duckblur!....) [You know you're now singing it. Your welcome]

Excellent thread and some very good advice in here. My wife and I have a 19 month old son and reading the news daily and everything that is currently going on in our world- really makes me worry about how it is going to be when he grows up. However, I trust that through our parenting and his innate abilities, he will grow up to be mature enough to handle the challenges ahead! I should stop reading and listening to the news- seriously it is depressing!

So my daughter likes to play this game that when I get out of my seat she sits in it and makes me sit on her. She is 30#, I am 190#. I am so sick of the game because she will not move unless I whoop her ass or sit on her. But when I sit on her it hurts (obviously) so either way she is not gaining anything. I do not understand kid logic :wtf:

LOL, my 3 year old daughter does something similar. She climbs in the car but instead of buckling in to her car seat like I ask, she gets right in to the front seat and hides. Won't get in the car seat until I yell at her. Gets kinda old, especially if she tracks mud all over the seat. Wet Okole covers soon. And I hear ya about the estrogen ocean. I have 2 girls myself. Even the dog is (was) female. I just have the 2 (formerly) boy cats to give me some kind of support.

Great thread. No kids here as we're "practicing" with our Red Heeler Chase. Luckily after nearly 6 years together there's no pressure to have kids except from my Dad of all people. He just doesn't seem to get it when he asks when we're gonna give he and my Mom a grandkid and I point to Chase and tell him, "You've got one. Fury with 4 legs."

My daughter just turned seven & my son will be 5 in December. He plays soccer and she has 4 belts left to get her first black belt in Taekwondo & she also is in a swim group. I teach both of my kids the exact same principles in life also. I agree that public schools are the best way for our kids to see the world as it really is. However at the end of the day, you as a parent need to teach them what is right and what is wrong.
We have the "luxury" of living in NYC where my kids see EVERYTHING everyday of their lives. Nothing phases them anymore, relatively speaking, of course for their age. They have seen homeless people, drug addicts panhandling, young people helping elderly cross the street, young people giving up their seat to pregnant women on the subway, etc., from a very young age. This is the world they are surrounded by and we as parents have to teach them that where we go in life is controlled by us and our actions.

Well said, 1Engineer!

Both of my children (boy 17, girl 21) play soccer at the college level. The boy is starting his BSME program off with a bang with a 99% on his first calculus test. The girl (woman?!!!) is in her 3rd year of her BSN program.

What I meant by my comment is:
Take for example Brock. He is taking his youngsters camping a lot. This is an education very few will get on the outdoors, packing skills, travelling and many other things. When mine were young on Saturday afternoons I would take the boy out to a logging operation and show him feller bunchers or skidders and loaders, or take him to a construction site and show him the tower cranes and Dozers. I not only would show him but also explain the equipment to him. I even took him on a few machiine start ups I needed to observe and he learned about instrumentation and drawbar pulls and the difference between it and tractive effort lol. As he got older he retained that knowledge and even though he spent most of his time training and playing sports we would still have lots of conversations about machines and we still do. My daughter caught the nursing bug from my wife and visits to her work when she was little. We did not plan it at all but as time went on you could see what was happening.

Here are a few words of advice:
Keep your kids in public schools but DO NOT let the schools raise them. The discipline, love, compassion and life skills should come from home. The reading and math should come from school and be augmented by you. The reason I said public schools is the incredible social interaction your child will have with other kids. I mean, where else could you take your kid and put him in an environment with all of the future doctors, lawyers, engineers, business owners, politicians, trash men, felons, drug addicts, ditch diggers and McDonald's employees in one room? Private schools will only cater to a few of those industries whereas public schools cater to them all lol. Teach your children to interact with all levels of intelligence and ignorance and they will be just fine.

Final thing: The number one rule we taught our kids is this: "Life is not fair. Either figure out how YOU can even the playing field or live with the results as they stand." Both kids now realize the importance of this rule and practice it daily as we do. Example: So you got a bad grade and Sally got a good grade? Study harder and you will get a good grade too. Example: So the guy got by you and scored the winning goal? Train more to get quicker and stronger. It does not take long to teach your children they are in control of their own destiny. What that is depends on how much effort they are willing to expend.

Nice thread Brock and congrats on the 2nd one. I'm in the same boat as you Dannyllama (congrats on your first), I'm a bit worried about how my 18 month son will grow up in this world/society, not to mention the 2nd kid coming in May. I debated how to raise them...I even thought of pretending to be poor so they learn the value of money and hard work that way, since that was the only way I know of because that's how I learned. But that wasn't going to work because it's kinda hard to live a lie. But the advice everyone is giving is much appreciated, good stuff!

Thank you :0 and congrats to you too. We weren't that well off growing up either and I remember the power going out back home (not going to say where lol) water being shut off because of outages.
I like what Brock and 1engineer said, taking them camping will teach them a lot of "heart" and get minds off of the social norms. I'm planning to visit the homeless often with them and keeping them sheltered from danger but not mindless. We will see how that will all pan out, maybe we can all post updates on this same thread in about 18 years :) - how cool would that be.

OMG I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that stinking pressure any more . Every time I used to see my parents I would get a talk or a story of someone else grand kids, it was so annoying and they just didnt get that we weren't ready. My dad couple times gave me medical/sex advice LOL, weird would be an understatement. Nevertheless, just glad thats behind me now.

I played "Santa" for several years (don't ask why as I am not fat nor jolly lol I guess I was the only one to volunteer) at the local homeless shelter. I had my kids dress up like elves to help hand out gifts. Very sobering for them to see some kids they went to school with living there. Needless to say very important life lessons happened during those visits.

As the dad to 2 boys, I'm going the Alpha Male route. Momma works with them on school work both are in advance placement and in the case of the youngest piano and music he is 11 and his brother is 13 and he helps out in Sunday school with the little short bussers along with momma. That is the Yin to my Yang.

With me they have been trained in Martial Arts since age 4, not tournament stuff although they do compete but hardcore street fighting, joint popping stuff. Each boy has a arsenal that would make a 3rd world nation proud. Not a easy thing to do here in California where they liberals in control take great pride in ignoring the fiscal cliff they have put us in after 40 straight years of dictatorship but make damn sure I cannot have too many guns. They also race karts and want to get into motorcycle road racing like dad did 75 pounds ago. They also hunt with both weapons and compound bows ( and gut and prep their kills) as well as enjoy the math it takes to try and make a 1000 meter shot with their rifles. I wanted them to know what it takes to enjoy that steak on their plate and how it got in that pretty little plastic package.

My point is for those with sons think about raising them like males not metro sexuals that it seems like the media wants us to produce.

^my 3.5yo daughter already has a pink "cricket" .22 . She loves going to the range with Daddy wearing her pink ear protection and shooting "ombies". What can I say, we are rednecks! LOL

That is awesome ! We just went to Yuma to do the dove opener on Sept 1 & 2 and as we got back to the hotel we were cleaning our birds next to a dad and his daughters roughly the same ages as my boys cleaning their birds pink bows in their hair. It was so cool to see that .

Spending time with the kids is sometimes more important than the activity.

The company you keep says more about your character than any personal goals you might achieve. Good job and keep it up!

Change of subject in this Chat Thread.

Where would you rather be today than sitting here behind my desk (insert what applies)?

I would be camping either at Yosemite or Big Sur.

On the shore of the outer banks sitting on my slide out cargo tray with a cooler and a saltwater rig on either side.

Um... let me think.

I'll go with... on the boat fishing, anywhere. What else is there?

Ya- so I look like a dork in this pic. Just focus on the damn fish.
