I was still skeptical if those were actually his feet or not, so [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] sent me this picture last night to shut me up. He also told me he traded in the mountain bike to pursue a new sport. Well, now I'm speechless that's for sure.

Pat, I completely forgot to comment on your last post from yesterday. It's truly heart warming to read about such kindness and generosity from complete random strangers, and even better to read about the unexpected rewards for your kind acts. Must've been a father's day you will never forget.
Thank you for posting the story, thank you and your family for being such great people, and most importantly thank your daughter for being a hero. :usa2:

Bottom line is....if we all did just a kind deed daily for someone in need...the world would be a better place.
I can't imagine being thousands of miles from home, away from everything you know and love, in some hostile inhospitable land. If there's anything we can do to ease that...I'm all for it.
Remember, they do this daily for folks they don't know...and are so humble, they just write it off as " their job".....I am still in awe over that.

Only thing I would've really done differently is turned the recovery vehicle around when they were using the snatch strap. He had plenty of room to turn around and it's harder on your truck to pull someone out when you're in reverse. You have one reverse gear and 4 or 5 forward gears to use, plus everything about your drivetrain is meant to go forward.

What about using both trucks to pull? Is that conventional/recommended?
Looks like the recovery vehicle was being pulled forward by the winch due to lack of traction. the second vehicle was used as an additional anchor. i.e. the dude in the water was REALLY stuck.
I couldn't see real well, but did they end up wrapping a strap around the front axle? Looked like something was getting wrapped and hanging under the truck being pulled from the mud.

Yeah that's the impression I got too. I've used trees and other trucks as anchor points when there wasn't quite enough traction for winching.
Can't really tell. I just assumed that when the strap didn't work the guy didn't feel like removing the shackle before attaching the winch line because it was in mud or under water.
