You must crash your IS350 a lot!!!
Same Koz as on ClubLexus?

I guess I'm a minority. I didn't want, and wouldn't want a full time transfer case.

I have a Trail, chose it over the Limited knowing basically what the differences were and after 38k miles and every kind of weather driving, I would still choose it over the Limited because it looks better and slipping from 2Hi to 4Hi takes all of about 2 seconds. If I was driving in town all day, during a longish winter, I might have gone the other way. If I was driving mostly highways during that same longish winter, I'd choose the Trail.
In my opinion, the only regular benefit to the Limited's torsen diff is when you frequently have to make turns on mixed traction surfaces, like city streets in snow and ice and bare pavement. My area and lifestyle doesn't meet that criteria, so I got the better looking trim level and I pay more attention when the weather is snowy/freezy.
On the 4th gen, if you're in 2WD (2H) and shifting to 4H, it can take a few seconds or more before shifting to 4WD is completed. But for me, if it's a situation that I know I may be needing 4WD, I would've shifted to 4H early on to avoid waiting for the shifting from 2WD and 4WD to happen when I need that extra traction.
Very true. With the 5th gen SR5 and TE's part-time 4WD system, you're in 4WD almost instantly after shifting the lever. A moot point with the 5th gen Limited, since it's full-time 4WD.

Cool. I'm on there too (also an IS350 owner). Small world.
Isn't the 350 an AMAZING car!

Am I the only one sick of hearing from this DocMT fella?
Trust me, you are not the only one!:
The 5th gen V6 is a dog, it's slow, lacks acceleration pick up and has virtually no hard throttle response in a positive way and coupled with the lack of the Torsen... it's a no brainer for me to keep this Torsen V8 as long as possible!
I second that!
I will not argue with your previous comments, but this one I have to! Owning my 5th for almost 2 years now you have to 'know' how to drive it to get it to respond the way you want it to. Every car is different and has a 'learning curve'. I knew someone with a Viper back in the day who sold it because they could not get it out of the garage without burning the tires each time. It was not the Vipers fault. The acceleration time difference between the 4th v8 and the 5th v6 is all but imperceivable to all but a couple tenths of a stopwatch. If you are calling the 5th a dog, well sir, you are calling yours a dog as well. My 99' Dodge SUV had full time 4wd, sure I was sad to see my 10' did not but overall I do not mind it at all. Can I see why you 4th gen v8er's are hesitant, sure, but don't bash the 5th on performance, who knows with the TRD CAI we might be able to get those couple tenths back![]()

I usually stay away from the V8 vs V6 debate but with the V8, I don't have to 'pick my places to accelerate' or learn how to drive the vehicle to it's potential.
The vehicle pulls with no hesitancy... the motor is barely 'working' and the 4Runner passes anything... especially if I lock in 4th gear... which keeps me from getting a speeding ticket.
With the V8, especially in the long passes here in Colorado, Wolf Creek, Monarch, Eisenhower Tunnel, Vail Pass, et al... the V8 flies with torque and mph to spare. The motor works at a very low RPM, less noise, less strain.
It's the torque that pulls up the long grades... not the HP.
The Torsen diff keeps all four wheels engaged and adds stability to the ride.
That's why I truly enjoy the V8 and would never trade it for a V6.
As usual... YMMV.:
So, how long have you owned your 5thG? Don't have one? I'll ask you the same question I asked repeatedly to docMT: Why are you here in the 5th G section when you don't have one? Oh, just to talk trash...just like docMT. Ok then I can put you on the "ignore list" since you have nothing at all to offer.
What's the difference between the 5th Gen Limited's Torsen and a 4th Gen?
